DADA-101
Please read the following announcements before messaging Professor Kwan with questions. They may be answered here!
- Defense Against the Dark Arts Year One receives a high number of assignments per day and per week. Our team is composed entirely of volunteers who have to manage their real lives as well. Please be patient when waiting for your grade. If the gradebook says "submitted," it is in the queue and will be graded in the order it was received.
- This year is an introduction to the Dark Arts and how to defend against them. Therefore, we will not be learning any advanced spells, nor will we be discussing high level Dark magic. We will be sticking to basics and we ask that you not incorporate higher level Dark magic in your assignments until such time that you learn about them.
- We will also not be teaching you about them as "extra studies," so don't ask.
- We will also not be teaching you about them as "extra studies," so don't ask.
- If you believe that an assignment has been graded unfairly, please message Professor Kwan or Lily Lavender with the grade ID. Please ensure your message is respectful or your request/appeal will be denied.
- If you have questions about the course content, please owl Professor Kwan or any of the Professors' Assistants (PAs)!
Introduction and ExpectationsWelcome to your first lesson of Defense Against the Dark Arts. I will be your professor for this course and hope that, over the next seven years, I will be able to adequately prepare you to face the world beyond these castle walls - a world full of Dark creatures and Da…
Welcome back. I am glad to see so many of you return and hope that you are ready to continue your education in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Last week, we learned a lot of history and ended class with two spells that were fairly simple and should not have given you too much of a challenge. This we…
Welcome to Lesson Three, everyone. I appreciate your patience and am thrilled with the progress you all are already showing. I know your first two lessons were longer, but the length of these beginning lessons has been necessary in order to give you all the proper foundation you will need to succee…
Welcome to Lesson Four, everyone. I hope you have been studying and practicing the spells you have learned thus far, since several of them will be needed in order to effectively combat the creatures we will be discussing over the next several lessons. Today will be a great day for those of you who …
And so we arrive at the day of your midterm. Today you will be sitting an exam that tests everything you have learned since the first lesson of this course. I certainly hope that you are all prepared. However, before you can take the exam, I must provide a little more information that will be found…
Well, I am certainly glad to see that you all have come back in one piece from your midterm. I hope that you found it appropriately challenging and that you are all pleased with the results you have achieved. Please do not forget what we have covered in the beginning of this year; just because you …
*As the students enter the classroom, they see the Hogwarts ghosts floating around, putting on their usual start of term performance. The ghosts quickly disperse, only to be replaced by Peeves, who starts pelting the First Years with Stink Pellets then quickly flies away, laughing*
I hope you all …
Today will be the last day of new, testable content; next class’ information will not be on the final exam. The content covered will be about an extra creature that will not be appearing on the exam, but is worthwhile to know about; then you will be sitting your final examination. I strongly …
As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. We have reached the end of our first year together and today you will be sitting through your final examination for this course. As a treat, we will be briefly covering a creature that you will most likely never encounter, due to it being ext…
Defense Against the Dark Arts Year One will serve as an introduction that will set the foundation for your magical education and properly prepare you for future work in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Here, we will explore what the Dark Arts are, some basic defensive and offensive spells, and low ranking dark creatures that will allow you to develop an understanding about how we discuss and defend against dark creatures.
