Organising Your Studies

written by Anthea Hawthorne

Do you find the sheer amount of information Hogwarts has to offer daunting? Do you get overwhelmed at the number of classes, or find it hard to keep track of which lesson you're on at any given point? Do you wonder how on Earth you'll remember everything shown in lessons? This book covers my organisational tips, and how I use technology and planning to make the most of my studies. I use Notion as a planner, and Anki for flashcards, and will detail how to use them. You will also learn my personal tips on how to pass all your classes. This is not a study guide, and cannot replace lessons, but it will help you improve in your studies. This may be updated as I carry on through my studies and explore different ways to study, and see what works best for me.

Flashcards: What kind of flashcards should I make?

Chapter 4

If you have decided to make flashcards, here I'll show you some examples of my cards, so you can get an idea of how I study.

First of all, there's the simplest kind of card, where I just put a question and answer.

This is the majority of my flashcards. I don't always put extra information on the back of cards, only when I feel like it.

Then there are my Cloze cards. I have less of these. What these cards do is let you hide information in the card, and then reveal it to you. I mostly use it for Potions instructions.

With this single note, I make six flashcards, each one hiding a different piece of information.

Then there's Image Occlusion. To use it, check the add-on's webpage for instructions, linked in the previous chapter. Here is an example of a card I made for Astronomy, where I have hidden the angle that each hand position represents when measuring angular distance.

Sometimes I put a lot of related information on one card. An example of this might be how I memorise spells. I put the whole spell block in the card.

If there is a lot of facts to remember for one concept, I write a little number next to the question to indicate how many things I need to remember.

You can also specify what the facts relate to in your prompt.
