"Me dad's a Muggle; Mum's a witch. Bit of a nasty shock for him when he found out."<html>

Hi, I'm Lydia, a half-blood witch at Hogwarts. I was sorted into Ravenclaw house, which didn't come as a surprise. The Sorting Hat barely rested atop my head before it made its decision. My mum, a witch herself, was one of the top students of her class when she came to Hogwarts. My dad, a muggle, works as a 'lawyer', which, from what I've heard, requires a lot of hard work in the muggle world. So, of course my home in Cornwall, was filled with books upon books upon books. There were books about potions, books about the muggle law, and so many more. Our small library really fascinated me and opened my eyes to not only the wizarding world, but also the muggle world. That's the wonderful thing about being a half-blood; you can experience so much more about both the worlds we live in. I learned so much growing up, not only because my parents pushed me to read and discover things, but also because I was surprisingly eager to learn as a little kid. Once I found out about the different houses at Hogwarts, I immediately knew that I wanted to be in Ravenclaw. Learning at Hogwarts has been a dream come true. Of course I miss home and going to muggle school, but Hogwarts has so much more to offer. One of my favorite classes is Astronomy. It really fascinates me that there is a vast unknown just right outside our atmosphere and there's an endless possibility as to what could be out there. Just spending some nights up in the Astronomy Tower studying the stars dotting the sky is just breathtaking. Another one of my favorite classes is potions. It just amazes me how you can mix a few simple ingredients to either create a cure for an infamous disease or create a deadly poison. The possibilities are endless for potions. I think after I graduate from Hogwarts, I'm either going to continue learning about the universe or become a Healer. I'm leaning more towards a Healer, but, we'll see. I'm surprisingly not as worried about my future as I thought I would be. Being at Hogwarts has opened up a lot of new opportunities for me and has allowed me to find myself in a way. I know that sounds kind of cheesy, but it's true. I've realized how much of a perfectionist I can be, which can be seen as either a strength or weakness. Sure, I always make sure my work is at its best, but I'm also really hard on myself. It's not like I'm trying to have a competition with my peers, it's as if I'm competing with myself, which is kind of odd. I'm also hard on myself outside of an education standpoint. Growing up, I wasn't the most social kid, which still has an affect on me today. I don't see anything that stands out in me other than schoolwork and being somewhat intelligent. I never like to be arrogant or cocky, so I just don't put myself out there. Oh, well. My time at Hogwarts is not even close to being over, so I hope that I can truly express myself and make my mark on the school (there we go again with being cheesy).
