Backstory
Ms. Azair Soleia Raine
(Pronounced Uh-Zare, Soul-Lay-Uh Rain)
I have never quite felt like I belonged to one place. Even here at Hogwarts, where everyone seems to find their groove easily, I tend to exist somewhere in between. I don't mind too much, in a way, I find comfort in being unnoticed. It allows me to understand people and the world around me in ways others often miss.
I have always been drawn to different areas of magic, rather than just one. My mother says I am like a sponge, because I absorb knowledge from anything I can. Some days I am deeply focused, buried in books and theory, other days I just follow my curiosity wherever it leads me, and trust me, sometimes it takes me to some strange places. I guess I've never been the type of student who followed a straight path.
I'm not careless with magic, but I'm not afraid of it either. I like to test my limits and question things. I was taught that not everything is as simple as it seems, and I suppose I have always trusted instincts over instructions. Some people call it recklessness, but I think unwavering curiosity is a more suitable word.
I guess there's something about me that doesn't fully settle, kind of like I'm always in the process of becoming something else. I don't really see it as a flaw though. If anything, I think it feels like freedom.
I prefer quiet corners and late nights, you know, the type of silence where you can actually hear yourself think. I'm drawn to things that feel a little different. I guess you could say my taste is a little eccentric. Old magic, strange theories, subjects most people lose patience with. I don't know, I guess there is just something about things that people can't quite explain. Outside of my academics, I love to wisk away into a world of drag queens, glitter, and music on vinyl.
If you're looking for me, you can usually find me in the dimmest and quietest corner of the library. Otherwise, I might be wandering around the grounds with no real destination, or curled up in bed with a cup of tea and a slice of Vegemite toast. Ah, Vegemite... definitely the thing I miss the most from home... apart from my parents, of course. One of the Huffepuff girls tried to make it for me using a handful of ingredients and a witch-tok tutorial, but it's not quite the same.
