Lesson 7 - Lumos Solem & Lumos Numerosa

Chapter 8

I can't believe that my first year is coming to the end so quickly. It feels like its just been a few weeks, but these days have passed by so fast. It feels like so many things have weighed me down, but I've been growing so much. I feel like my spell casting has improved the most, as I didn't even know how to spell cast when I was enrolled. But, my relationship with people has improved so much more....

"Okay, try it again. Just concentrate as hard as you can." He spoke to me in kind words. His eyes smiled at me from across the room. How could I concentrate with him staring at me like that?

I had to keep trying. I concentrated, working as hard as I could to ignore David's smile. I moved my wrist and my wand moved in the proper motions. First was the regular paced counter clock wise loop, than several faster counter clock wise loops. I concentrated on letting the tiny beams of light shine from my wand. Lumos Numerosa. The beams seemed to dance around the room. I worked hard to focus the beams to let them flow, though I had to keep them pretty close together to control all four beams. The charm died out, but the remainder of the light seemed to twinkle in David's eyes.

I felt a rush of confidence. He was so proud of me. I was proud of myself too. If I could do that spell, I could do the other one to. I rounded my wand much more as I said the words, concentrating to get the spell as strong as could be. Lumos Solem. The light blasted out of the wand, much brighter than I expected. The light blasted right into David's eyes. I could see him ducking for power, but it was just so bright. It had already hit him in the eyes. It was too late. Guild rushed through me as I realized what I had done to one of my friends.

My panic rushed through me and my concentration was lost. I threw my wand to the floor as I rushed to David's side. I grabbed him, trying to get him to pull his head up at his hands. Tears welled up in my eyes, but his eyes were in even worse condition. He pulled his eyes out but they were a crusty red, as if they were bleeding. They looked burnt and painful.

"I can't see," he squealed. I grabbed him and pulled him up, rushing him to the medical ward. He tried to cry but couldn't. "I'll never see your beautiful face again."
