Lesson 2) Spellcasting Basics
Chapter 2
Source of Magic:
-Most wizards pass down magic from generation to generation, but sometimes they don't, resulting in a Squib*.
*Someone with no magical ability, though born to at least 1 magical parent.
-A Squib CAN detect small amounts of magic and can sometimes use some magical devices.
-Sometimes, a person with no magical heritage can possess magical ablility, which are called Muggle-Borns**.
**Sometimes, other blood statuses look down on Muggle-Borns, calling them Mudbloods. This is in no way nice, so you should not do it.
-A half-blood witch or wizard is someone with one magical parent and one Muggle-born or non-magical parent.
- A pure-blood witch or wizard is someone that has no Muggles in their bloodline, they have always been magical.
-No blood status is “better” than the other. You should not be ashamed of what blood status you are, nor should you brag!
Basic Magic:
-You can do magic almost the same way you do breathing. You do it without noticing.
-If you focus your energy in your body, you will sense a glowing ball of your energy. That is your magic.
-That is what allows you to focus and make magic.
-To make magic, here is what you do:
-Visualize the magic in you, and slowly take hold of your wand, making sure that you are keeping it away from anything flammable.
-Concentrate on the magic flowing through you and into your wand
-You may see some sparks coming out of your wand, but don’t be frustrated, it takes a while to learn how to make magic.
Spellcasting Components:
-The spellcasting components are incantation and pronunciation, wand movement, willpower, and concentration.
-The incantation are the words that you say. They have to be with proper pronunciation, or consequences could occur.
-Wand movement is the shape that you make with a wand when casting a spell.
-Willpower is the magical strength and focus you need when you cast a spell. This is very difficult to master.
-Concentration is keeping your mind on the desired effect.
