Introduction- The Hellenistic World
Chapter 1
The Hellenistic World refers to the period from the death of Alexander the Great to the conquest of Egypt by Rome, specifically surrounding the cultures around the Mediterranean conquered by Alexander. Though covering only 300 years of history, the rich cultural diversity in the Hellenistic world makes it an interesting topic of research, particularly with regards to changes and developments in culture.
In the History of Magic the Hellenistic era is equally as fascinating, as this was a period of innovation and discovery, when religion and science became increasingly available to the masses. As a result public magic became more acceptable in the forms of religious practice and medicine, and the services of witches and wizards were highly sought after.
