The Sorting!

Chapter 5
01/09/2018-Later On In The Day-

Hey Diary,
So today was spectacular. I met new friends on the train, and was finally sorted into a Hogwarts House. But sadly one thing wasn't that great!P.s I am writing later on in the day, just so you know.

By the time I had put on my robes and bought some sweets, - a chocolate frog- We were just arriving at Hogsmeade Station. The sun was just going down as we arrived, this meant we had to get off the Hogwarts Express immediately or we'd be left behind. I grabbed my wand, as well as my chocolate frog, and sped out of the compartment and off the train. Haley,Caspian and Ryland all followed after me quickly rushing out of the train. We then met up with the groundskeeper Enochia Malchin. She had red hair, which had been put in a bun, and wore a long green coat with flowery pants and a shirt. Enochia greeted me with a smile and shook my hand, she then loudly said, "Alright first years, I know you want to explore but we have to get to Hogwarts, does anybody know how we get there?" Caspian's hand shot up in the air. I knew the answer but was too scared to say. Obviously, Enochia chose Caspian. He answered with one simple word, boats. The groundskeeper smiled and agreed. " Yes, we travel by boats, I warn you all in advance that it is a beautiful sight!" Exclaimed Enochia.

Enochia led us to the Hogsmeade Docks and we all sat in a boat. Only four people maximum were allowed in a boat Me,Caspian,Ryland and Haley all sat together in a boat. It gave us a better time to talk and get to know one another. As we sailed away from the docks, Enochia told us to light our lamps. We lit the lamps in a line, starting from the first boat on the left, to the last on the right. After all the lamps were lit, the lights from the Hogwarts castle all turned on. It was amazing, not only how perfectly timed it was, but the beauty of the castle in the night sky! Caspian explained how the Hogwarts lights were timed to turn on at exactly 6 pm, he really was a know it all! It took approximately 30 minutes to get across the lake- I had no problem with this, I had longer to look at the castle! When we did reach the Hogwarts docks, my boat was the second to arrive,(Enochia's was first) this meant we were first to get into Hogwarts and to go inside the Great Hall. Enochia didn't give us a tour around the grounds because we were slightly late, instead she lead us straight into Hogwarts and to Professor Lumani. Professor Lumani had short white hair, he seemed at least 45 at the youngest. " Hello first years, very nice to meet you! But we are late, so if you could please quiet down while we enter the hall. Thank you." Said Professor Lumani politely. Everyone stopped talking, probably thinking you'd get expelled if you didn't!

The doors to the Great Hall were finally being opened! I squealed with excitement, but as I saw Professor Lumani stare at me, I stopped. We all walked in nervous and scared, all the other years clapped as we entered though! " Hello,Hello first years! I am delighted to welcome you to the Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry!" Shouted our headmaster, Professor McGonagall. " We will begin sorting immediately because of late entrances, your names will be called and you will sit on this chair at the front!" Professor Lumani shouted out the names, the first person he called up was a girl called Pepper Mostfin. She was small and had freckles on her face, as well as short chestnut hair. I thought she would be a Hufflepuff but you can't judge a book by there cover! Apparently she was a Gryffindor! Next they called out Caspian Porter, he smiled at me and then sat on the chair. " Hmm very interesting, witty yet brave, also quite sly."Mumbled the Sorting Hat, "What to pick, What to pick, I know GRYFFINDOR!" After Caspian was sorted I desperately wanted to be a Gryffindor. I was NOT being without my friends for the rest of my Hogwarts life! About ten minutes later I was finally called, nervously I walked up to the chair and had the sorting hat placed on my head. " AHH miss Lovegood's daughter, she was a very interesting character. Alot of intelligence, yes yes, but very fair and kind." Muttered the Sorting Hat, " Very hard, hmm, I know Ravenclaw!" I ran to the Ravenclaw table, I was actually in Ravenclaw! I saw my brother's disappointed faces, sat at Gryffindor but I knew I would be safe. Next they called Haley. The Sorting Hat seemed to know where to put Haley already, because as soon as he was placed on her head he shouted, " Hufflepuff!" I was happy for Haley and Caspian, but I really wanted to be with them. Finally they called Ryland, he had his head down as he sat on the chair, too shy to look at anyone. "Ahh, very shy yet intelligent, good friend, I know where to put you, Ravenclaw!" Ryland quickly ran over and sat next to me. I smiled at him and he smiled weakly back.

I was happy with the Sorting except, me and my friends had been separated! We were going to have to think of ways to communicate and stay in touch! I know were all in the same school, but you only ever mainly talk to your housemates! Luckily tomorrow we had a chance to meet ,because of the tour around the grounds, Enochia was doing. We waved at each other before Professor McGonagall started her speech. It was all about how NO students could enter the Forbidden Forrest and some boring rules! I did listen but I won't bore you with the rules! Anyway after the speech we started the feast! I had way too much to eat, I almost exploded! I don't understand how Ryland could moan about not eating enough of his food, but he did!

The feast went on for 35 minutes, it was a time to eat and chat to your new housemates! Then we had to follow our Prefects to our common room. The Ravenclaw Prefect explained how we had to answer a riddle to enter the Common Room. In advance he had already figured out the riddle, and said the answer to enter. Apparently the Ravenclaw common room has the best views! And I agree, it had a beautiful view of the quidditch pitch and the wonderful school grounds! Mindo the Prefect told us the girls dorm was to the left, and the boys to the right. We now had an hour until lights out, so me and Ryland unpacked away our belongings and met up in the common room! Ryland had seemed to warm up to me a little bit, but he was still shy. We talked about ways to communicate to our other friends and eventually went to bed!

Today was amazing, especially traveling on the boats! I 100% never want to leave! Hopefully everything goes alright this year!
