A Final Thought
Chapter 7
I hope that you have found this book useful and will have given you a basic idea of the various herbs and plants that hold magical properties that exist in our world. Although it should be noted that this book is not an exhaustive guide to all herbs and plants that are used in potions I have done my best to give you a general idea of which plants and herbs you may be likely to encounter in your lifetime.
Although I fully support the argument for ensuring the freshness of ingredients in potion making (with the exception of times when potions require dried ingredients), it should also be maintained that you be careful with the amount of ingredients that you harvest. For plants and herbs that are classed as endangered / rare, such as Dragon's Blood, or can cause issues if seen by muggles, such as Hemp (this point is particularly important for witches and wizards living within or near muggle communities), you should always go to the nearest apothecary or licensed plant gardens to collect these ingredients. I say this not only because they are a safe and registered place to get ingredients (most will often provide bags with illusion spells cast on them, so that should a muggle look into the bag they will only see common fruits and vegetables) but because they also practice a one-for-two policy. This policy means that for each plant / herb they sell they will plant two new ones in their place, not only to keep prices reasonable but also to reduce the times that they have to go and harvest plants from the wild.
