basilisks commonly known as the king of serpents are a dangerous breed of horned serpents.They are considered as dark creatures as have ministry of magic rating of xxxxx.The first person ever to bred a basilisk was Herpo The Foul,he accomplished this by hatching a chicken egg under a toad creating the deadly beast.The basilisk has a deadly stare killing anyone who sees it in the eyes and petrifying anyone who sees its eyes via something else like a mirror,ghost,camera,water,etc.The truth is a bit different though,in the diary of Herpo The Foul I found out that Basilisk skin which deflects magic causes its magic to have two opening slots available:mouth and the eyes.Due to the similarities between basilisk skin and dragon hide,we can assume that dragons choose their mouth as slot to release their magic while basilisk chose eyes.Basilisk have deadly venom in their fangs causing death within minutes unless healed with phoenix tears.The Basilisk venom can even destroy horcruxes due to its intense power.Basilisks were banned from breeding in middle ages though it could be hidden by removing the egg when ministry came to visit.The most easiest way to kill a basilisk is the crowing of a rooster which deadly to it.Though a basilisk can be controlled by a parselmouth can control it as its a snake after all but it can choose which order to follow making it possible for parselmouth to get killed easily.
