THE 4 SACRED MEDICINES - b. SWEETGRASS : South, Summer, Red

Chapter 55
Sweetgrass is, in Herbology circles, deemed the Herb of the Youth. Other names for the plant include Holy Grass and Vanilla Grass. Its Latin name is from the Greek for “Holy fragrant grass” – whoever figures out what the name is should try and be the first to post it in the discussion board! It can be shiny and beautiful, yet also dull and dry. Herbologists often kept Sweetgrass in a braid, and spoke metaphorically about how together (when braided) the Sweetgrass could not be pulled apart. Sweetgrass grows to around twenty centimetres in height, but its leaves have the ability to reach 100 centimetres to the side. This is because the plant stem is very weak and cannot support much height. The bottom of the leaves is shiny, but the top is slightly “hairy.” The scent of Sweetgrass makes it popular in potion making, along with its calming properties. The pleasant taste of Sweetgrass furthers its popularity.
