The Night-flowering Catchfly is a winter perennial, which is usually seen as a weed for its ability to propagate and take over grain fields. Growing to about 75 centimeters tall, the Night-flowering Catchfly is a nocturnal plant whose scent attracts moths in the night. The Catchfly is often used because of its scent; however, many health benefits are attributed to the plant. It is able to be used to treat ailments related to kidneys, digestion, and stiffness of muscles. More importantly, during the "black death" (a major plague which wiped out a large percentage of Europe's population) it was used to soothe the dying. The leaves may be used in potions to promote lactation, and the flower may be used in order to heal burn wounds.
