Wand Size and Pliability

Chapter 3
The length and the flexibility or rigidity of a wand are the less understood properties of this magical item. Less experienced wandmakers used to pair the wizard or witch’s height to the size of the wand solely, and they did not work on changing the original pliability of the woods they carved into wands. It is now known, however, that these features of the wand may be related to their owner self-awareness and self-acceptance. The more flexible wands tend to choose wizards and witches who possess doubts about their personal characteristics and are able to adapt to very different situations, while more rigid wands usually go for wizards and witches that understand well their own personalities and prefer not to face drastic changes of circumstances. As for length, the smaller wands seem to pair well with owners whose personality is not entirely shown and the bigger wands appear to search for owners who exhibit their personality completely. Another characteristic of wand size is that, the shorter the wand, the more appropriate it is for self-enchantments, and the longer it is, the more powerful group spells it will cast.

Abnormally Short Wands
Wands that measure less than 9 inches are the rarest. It is said that they fit people whose personality lacks something, but it can be a misunderstanding. Very short wands pair well with people who do not accept fully who they are and tend to not show their whole self to others, trying to conceal the things they do not like about themselves. Wizards and witches owning an abnormally short wand may come to assume the characteristics they consider flaws over time, and in that case the wand will increase in performance.

Commonly Small Wands
Wands ranging from 9 to 10.5 inches are considered shorter than average but are common to be seen. The wizards and witches paired to these wands have a tendency to think well before acting, and their magic style is usually of elegance and neater than others. Owning a commonly small wand may, in some cases, represent that the owner cares a lot for himself or herself, which does not mean they are selfish.

Averagely Sized Wands
Most wands range from 9 to 14 inches, and those in between 10.5 and 12.5 inches are considered averagely sized. In contrast to what many think, owning a wand with average length does not mean the wizard or witch have average powers and would never triumph in life. Most accomplished figures in history of magic were paired to averagely sized wands. It is because these wands usually seek owners who control their instincts and calculate their acts, which makes them use their magic in appropriate ways.

Commonly Big Wands
Wands which length is between 12.5 and 14 inches are larger than average, yet not rare to be seen. Wizards and witches who own commonly big wands usually perform louder and brighter spells than others, for their magic style and personality is of dramatic inclination, and they are moved by emotions on most cases. These wands work well for selfless owners, whose magic is preferably directed to serving others.

Abnormally Long Wands
The wands measuring more than 14 inches are very unusual. Wizards and witches who have great self-esteem are preferred for these wands, because these owners mostly seek recognition and like to exhibit their prowess, being very honest about their personalities to everyone around them. They may, however, not consider their own points to be amended in some cases. If these wizards and witches come to accept some characteristics as flaws and learn how to hold them back eventually, the wand will increase in magical efficiency.

Flexible Wands
The wands characterized as brittle, quite or fairly bendy, quite or fairly flexible, pliant, supple, and whippy, are considered “flexible wands”. These usually fall in the hands of owners who like to progress quickly in life and face changes without hesitation. Brittle, fairly bendy and very flexible wands may seem fragile but the flexibility of their wood allow the magic of the user to assume considerable power, yet they tend to pair with wizards and witches who have doubts about their abilities. Pliant wands can adapt to new situations quicker than others, being favoured by owners who seek for new methods of using magic. The wizards and witches best suited for supple and whippy wands are adaptive in a more cautiously manner, and even if the supple wand and its owner may take a little longer to learn from each other, their results are usually the most reliable.

Stable Wands
“Stable wands” include those characterized as slightly yielding, slightly springy, reasonably supple, and all swishy wands. These tend to choose owners who seek perfection in their magic and try to plan things for a long-run. Slightly yielding or springy wands can cast spells faster than most wands, so they pair well with wizards and witches of quick thinking. The perfectionists may be chosen by reasonably supple wands, for these wands perform consistent magic without getting tired of repetitions and keep improving their results each time. As for swishy wands, their flashy style of magic is well suited to wizards and witches who strongly fight for particular or common issues, and many activists carry surprisingly swishy wands.

Rigid Wands
The wands described as hard, rigid, solid, stiff, unbending, and unyielding, are regarded as “rigid wands”. Most wizards and witches who use magic in a more traditional way and are rigorous when taking decisions are chosen by these wands. Hard wands are usually the most difficult to adapt to the user, and the wizards and witches who succeed with these wands are of enviable determination. Rigid and solid wands perform intensely any form of magic they do, and pair well with those who like to do things in their own way. Stiff and unyielding wands tend to find in demanding wizards and witches their perfect partners, and the magic produced by stiff wands are the hardest to be undone. The owner of an unbending wand is usually a selective wizard or witch. In many cases, the best wands for duels present unbending or unyielding rigidity.
