ENGORGEMENT AND SHRINKING CHARMS
These straightforward but surprisingly dangerous charms cause certain things to swell or shrink. You will be learning both charms together, so that you can always undo an over-enthusiastic cast. There is thus no excuse for having accidentally shrunk your homework down to microscopic size or for having a giant toad rampage through your schools flowerbeds.
ENGORGEMENT CHARM INCANTATION: ENGORGIO
The incantation to make things grow is 'Engorgio'. (Pronunciation: en-GOR-gee-oh)
SHRINKING CHARM INCANTATION: REDUCIO
To magically shrink things, speak the incantation 'Reducio'. (Pronunciation: red-you-see-oh)
GESTURE
The wand movement for these spells are the same, but upside-down. We'll learn the Engorgement Charm first.
ENGORGEMENT CHARM (ENGORGIO)
To make things swell, draw and arrow shape pointing up. Starting from your left, going diagonally upwards and then diagonally downwards again towards your right-hand-side. This gesture is like an upside-down 'V' shape.
SHRINKING CHARM (REDUCIO)
Making things shrink uses a wand gesture pointing down. Starting from your left, going diagonally down and then diagonally up again towards your right. This gesture is the exact same shape as the letter 'V'
