Chapter 1

Today is a very big day. Today, is the day that my life changes forever. The day I have waited for, forever. It’s 6 am, and I am wide awake. I have 7 hours of not seeing him, then, he’ll be the rest of my life. My whole world revolves around him, and now our bond will be sealed.

Today, I am getting married. I’m 21 years old. My parents didn’t approve of Joshua, but I know he’s the one. I’m beyond happy right now, although I am also having heavy emotions. My parents won’t be with me, but they will be in my hearts and in spirit. Ever since that day, I havent been the same. Many lives were lost, and many were impacted, unfortunately including mine.

Two years ago, my parents died, along with many others. Joshua has been there for me since. The first year was the hardest, but I’m better now, and after today, I will be amazing.

Me and Josh have been together for 5 years now. We met in a cafe one day. I was there for a job interview, he was working the cash register. I had placed my order and sat down. Two hours later, my interviewer still was not there, Josh came to my table and sat down. We talked forever and ever, I had found out three hours after arriving that I was at the wrong coffee place. Me and Josh started dating, and after a while, we became a couple.

“Good morning, redhead!” I look up to see my best friend, Siren standing above me.

“Siren?!? Oh my god! I didn’t think you’d be able to make it! I thought you were doing some trip with the sealings?”

“Nope, I got out of it, I couldn’t miss my best friend’s wedding!” Siren squealed.

“Oh my god, I am so happy!” I respond, “We should go get breakfast at Star Rails before we start getting ready!”

“I was thinking the same thing!” Siren gets up and crosses to the other side of the room, and points out a hanger with a cute, green sundress. She picks it up and shows it to me, “Hmm, good thing this new sundress is just sitting here, and happens to be just your size!”

“Wow.” I state sarcastically, “You didn’t have to do that. Seriously.” I look at her and then back at the dress. I get up from the bed and take it from her hand.

She giggles, “I know, just consider it a wedding gift!”

I hurry straight to the bathroom. “I’ll be out in like 30 minutes!”

I set the dress down onto the counter, and undo my messy bun. I’m looking at the mirror to decide if I look any different, and as far as I can tell, I don’t. Skin? Still the same. Hair? sill the same. Wings? Still the same. Everything’s the same. But also not. I feel different. Like someone who’s happier, brighter, but it doesn’t show.

I’m a nature fairy. My current job is… nothing. I haven’t found my purpose. My mother and father were both leafers, they helped the trees grow leaves in the spring. My sister is a flourist. Her job is to grow beautiful fields of flowers. I’m still tryng to find my job, and I haven’t yet.

My stepsister, Nora, is a wizard fairy. The incident happened before she could find her job, but she’s still doing better, I think. No one has talked to her in years, after her realm was destroyed. I remember it well. I was in my home with my snail, Izze, when it came on the news. Each realm has a stone connected to it, like its heart. At 9am, the queen of Fairyland had dropped the stone connected to the wizard realm. It shattered, slowly the land dissolved. Everyone in the realm died, except Nora, miraculously. My mother was living there with my stepdad currently, and my father was there on vacation when the stone shattered. Right place at the wrong time. They died that day. Nora came to me first. She turned up at my door the day after it happened. I thought she had died too, turns out she made it off the realm before she could die. She stayed with me for two days, and spoke zero words. It wasn’t until the third day that she said somehting.

“I found a house. I’ll be out of your hair. Love you.”

She left with no more words than those. I haven’t heard from her since. The world hasn’t been the same. Everyone’s been thrown off. Especially Addie. Addie is the queen’s daugther, and one of my closest friends. I haven’t gotten to hang out with her much since she turned 20. She’s been training 24/7. When she turns 21, which is in two months, she will be crowned queen of Fairyland.

Fairyland is divided into realms of the different fairy types. There are 6 realms. Nature realm, dark realm, wolf realm, sea realm, wizard realm, and talent realm. Nature focuses on greenery, earth, and animals. The dark realm is home to the vampire fairies. The wolf realm is home to the wolf fairies, no one dares step foot in that realm unless you don’t want to return. The sea realm is home to the mermaid fairies, they keep sea life alive. The wizard realm is- was home to the wizard fairies, which knew everything there was about magic. And the talent realm is home to all the entertainers, there are jester fairies, actors, dancers, and many other performers.

I step away from the mirror and turn my shower onto warm and undress myself. I pop into the shower and wash my hair. When I get out, I brush my teeth and put my new dress on. I am quick to dry my hair and put some light makeup on, as my makeup will be done for me later in the day before the wedding. I throw some shoes on, grab my purse and head out the door to find Siren sitting on the porch.

“Ready!” I exclaim to Siren.

“You look great!” She compliments, “Let’s go!” She grabs my hand and we fly off to the cafe.

“So, is the princess coming to the wedding?” Siren inquires.

“Yes, she is. But don’t go bombarding her with questions and stuff, you know she hates that. She’s just coming because she’s my friend. Nothing else.” I state, with a stern look. I reach for my latte and take a sip.

“Yeah yeah, I know!” She rolls her eyes at me, Siren is a mermaid fairy, and, unlike me, she has found her job, she cares for and helps out new sealings. “Ohhh I am just so excited for you! I know how much you’ve been wanting this for years! You guys are going to have such cute babies!”

“Oh my god! Shut up! You are so weird.” I roll my eyes and drink more of my latte.

“Not as weird as Faithe though…” Siren looks at me and smirks. I turn my head towards her and give her a look.

“Siren, Faithe is a great friend, and she is not weird, she’s just..”

“Snobby? Obnoxious? Stupid?”

“Different! She’s had a rough past, and needs more friends like us.” Siren reaches for her matcha and takes a few big gulps, “Slow down, woman, you’re gonna vomit.”

“Nuh uh, I can never get too much of my matcha.” Siren takes another gulp and smiles.
