At the end the basilisk ended up killing a student, moaning myrtle. moaning myrtle still too this day haunts the girls lavatory which is where she was killed and where the chamber of secrets lies. The chamber was told to be a myth as the school had been searched many times with the chamber not being found. untill, 1993 harry potter and ron weasley while on a search to save ginny (rons sister) they end up finding the entry in the girls lavatory.

Harry then meets ginny lying unconsious on the floor close to dying and a memory standing there of tom riddle in his 5th year which he had preserved in a diary which he had left behind for someon else to find to finish of the noble work of salazar slytherin. The memory of tom riddle and the diary was then destoryed killing a horcrux of voldemorts.The basilisk ended up to killed by Harry Potter and the chamber wasnt open again till 1997 when ron weasley and hermione granger went down to retrive a basilisk tooth to destroy the hufflepuffs cup which was turned into a horcurx by voldemort. And since then the chamber has not been open again. it reamins in the girls lavatory and the chamber cannot be open again.
