5. The Importance of Concentration

Chapter 6

Concentration

It is the act of centering your mind and your spells effects on the target. Concentration is not needed in every spell but most do need it. Without proper concentration you may not get the desired target or effect. Unlike incantations or wand movements, you will always keep needing concentration. The hardest part is that your mind needs to be clear, so a great way to practice is meditation.

Spell modifiers

A modifier is a word or small phrase added to the end of a spell to modify the target or effect.  Of every spell can be modified, for example the levitation charm.

The Sunlight Charm

Incantation: Lumos Solem (‘LOO-mos so-LEM’)

Wand Movement: Single counter-clockwise loop ending with the wand pointed toward the target.

Willpower: Low to very high; determines color and intensity of light.

Concentration: High; the target of the light.

This charm acts like a powerful flashlight. The willpower will affect the power and the concentration how long the charm will keep working. This charm is a great way to practice concentration.

The Dancing Lights Charm

Incantation: Lumos Numerosa (‘LOO-mos Noom-air-O-sa’)

Wand Movement: Single counter-clockwise loop, then several rapid counter-clockwise loops.

Willpower: None

Concentration: High; concentration should be maintained on all the orbs, and determines how many can be created.

This will conjure several small, floating lights. you must concentrate on each orb.
