The Main Reasons Of Why We Give Draco Malfoy A Second Chance

Chapter 21

Hello, readers! In today's article, we'll be discussing the main reasons why we should give our well-known Draco Malfoy a second chance, for I think I see some traces of good under his horrible personality and his birthday is June the 5th, so what better to talk about him! Are you ready? I know I am. Let's dive straight into it!

Reason no. 1 - His Family Influences
"My father will hear about this!", is something Draco always says as a threat. Yet from this single sentence, we can dig out many things about Draco's upbringing.

Being the only son of Death Eater Lucius Malfoy and his wife, a supporter of Voldemort, Narcissa Malfoy (née Black), nephew of Lord Voldemort's right-hand-woman, Bellatrix Lestrange, Draco lived in an extremely dark and cruel world. The darkness of that world no doubt had a great impact on a young and lonely boy.

He is a child longing for love - Lucius doesn't even seem to trust his own son at any rate; Narcissa obviously loved him, but as a mother, she hasn't done nearly enough for a son dearly in need of someone to rely on. So, obviously, Draco mimicked his father a lot, for that's all he had. We can't help but wonder what would have happened if Draco had a better family like the Weasleys or the Potters.

Reason no. 2 - "Saint Potter."
Draco grew up hearing the rumours of Harry Potter's power as a Dark wizard that basically brought his family's downfall. Assuming that his father will probably support a Dark wizard who's got the power to rival the Dark Lord's, he would definitely be proud to be the father of the famous Harry Potter's best friend. He held a hand for friendship to Harry (however in the wrong way), only to be turned down. His rejection made Draco's bubbles of hope pop, and from then on, they became enemies.

It is clear that Draco envies Harry - from his fame, Quidditch skills, popularity and so on. So, to weaken the feeling of jealousy he's probably ashamed of, he started competing in everything against Harry, in the vague hope that he'd be able to stifle Harry's unasked-for attention. And let us not forget, Lucius Malfoy also believed that Draco would be better than Harry, that is clear from the scene of him buying Draco a Nimbus 2001, and buying Draco a spot on the Slytherin Quidditch Team.

Reason no. 3 - He is a Boy Asked to Kill…
In Draco Malfoy's sixth year, the world started flipping over, and there were certain things, evil things, waiting for him on his path. When Voldemort ordered Draco to kill Dumbledore for him, Draco knew he stood very little chance of defeating the world's greatest sorcerer, but he agreed anyway. However, he's not seeking glory, he only accepted the task because Voldemort threatened him with the death of his family and himself. But he also probably wanted to revive his family's name. The task was hard, long, lonely and full of suffering. Draco refused to accept the help of Severus Snape, made crude plans to kill Dumbledore, and cried in the toilets alone with only Moaning Myrtle as company. Admit it, you would have sympathised with him if he wasn't acting creepy and trying to murder Dumbledore. In the end, he failed anyway. But not because of weakness and cowardice as Voldemort had thought, it's the little bit of undistinguished kindness in him that stopped him from committing a murder.

Reason no. 4 - He Was a Sweet Heart in an Evil Setting
He was a good person, essentially, wrapped under his bad character.
Now, we can see some traces of good inside Draco. For example, he's actually concerned for his friends' safety and appeared very uncomfortable about Greyback's appearance in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, as well as being visibly distressed with the death of Professor Burbage.

And later, in The Cursed Child, the frowning Draco's immense love for his son, Scorpius Malfoy, helped him save both his son and the Wizarding World. And thanks to his love for Scorpius, we see just how brave he can be for his loved ones.

So, those are the main reasons why we should give Draco Malfoy a second chance in my opinion, or at least try to understand him. Knowing your enemy is important!!! Besides, Draco isn't Harry's real enemy - it was Voldemort. In the end, they're both dolls for that very Dark sorcerer.

At least, like Draco's old Head of House, Severus Snape, he learnt from his mistakes.
