Shocking News

Chapter 2

Well, well, well. Welcome back, dearest readers, to what is no doubt your favourite part of the entire magazine: Shocking News. All the gossip of the latest month - in this case, two months - shall be revealed.

First up, we have the thing that ruined HiH for a good month or so. Can you guess what I’m talking about? The HiH blackout bugs. Man, that was a boring month! Am I right? Well, the blackouts started mid-to late June and continued on into the early days of July. However, even after the initial blackout (which was painted as site updates), there was the dreaded log-in bug that frustrated loads of us out of our minds. Even now, there are loads of bugs still there on the site, like the one that says the notification page doesn’t exist anymore. That means that if someone has more than 10 notifications, you won’t see the rest. Massively inconvenient, right? Same here. Keith Cardin, please fix this!

Now, the next big piece of news is…the PA and Professor positions!! We all know that there are regular applications to become PAs and Professors. I’m proud to announce that I actually became a Charms PA in July! However, the Charms PA applications did indeed close early July. The open applications to become a PA are: Defence against the Dark Arts, Divination, and Flying! Defence against the Dark Arts applications are only open till August 2nd, while the others don’t have a specified date for ending. Find the applications in the Newsroom! As for the Professor applications, the positions for Ancient Runes, Care of Magical Creatures, and Mythology, are open. There’s also a temporary position for Muggle Studies, since Professor Soleil is on sabbatical! This can also be found in the Newsroom.

Staying on the academic route, have any one of you readers struggled with finding motivation for completing courses? Sometimes it can get a bit mundane. But you know what might help? A school-type schedule that is still looser than normal, with a group of students working at your same pace! Sounds intriguing? Well, this is exactly what Professor Salvatrix and Professor Kwan are creating! The programme starts on September 1st, ending on August 3rd next year, and signups are now open! You can choose whatever courses you’d like! This sounds super intriguing for me - I’ve already signed up! It’s open to EVERYBODY.

Switching from the structured news now to the gossip of the castle…it is sweltering in this heat! However, one student seems to have found the best pastime - swimming! The Black Lake, however, has a whole load of creatures…and let’s just say that the slimy thing that Ella Meadows felt in the water was NOT seaweed. So, note to all students in the future…if you want to go swimming, please find a pool! The Giant Squid does NOT take kindly to students using his domain. It’s worth mentioning as well that if the squid doesn’t find you, the Grindylows or the Mermaids will. And neither are very friendly creatures.

I hope you have enjoyed, readers! See the next pages of the magazine to find out about all the events of June and July!
