Indian National Day

Chapter 9

Indian Independence Day, celebrated on August 15, is an occasion that brings pride and unity to the country of India. August 15 symbolises the day that Britain's colonial rule ended and India came up as a new and independent country. This historical event in India truly signifies the culmination of the effort characterised by determination, unity, and the fight for freedom of the Indian people.

Historical Background:
Various freedom fighters were dedicated to the end of the British rule of India, and they were involved in a long and tiresome struggle. The key elements of the Indian Independence Movement in the early 20th century were a series of peaceful protests, riots, and political negotiations. People like Subhas Chandra Bose, Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, and more played the role of uniting people in this regard and setting slogans for self-rule.

After many years of dialogue, disobedience to the law, and the deaths of many, India became independent on August 15th, 1947. The Indian tricolour flag was hoisted during the celebration inside the Red Fort in Delhi on this special day. Jawaharlal Nehru, who was the first Prime Minister of the country, raised the flag and made the "Tryst with Destiny" speech, which laid out the purpose and vision of the new nation.

Events and Observations:
“United we stand” has become the most common phrase expressing the spirit and unity felt by all Indians. Independence Day is a day for every citizen of the country to celebrate, whether they are alive or dead. The President of India will typically start the day with a speech to the country, in which he reviews the journey taken since the independence of the country and the roles of the courageous freedom fighters. He then communicates the vision of the country's future from Red Fort's rest room, in the setting of Delhi.

The saffron, white, and green tricolours, which symbolise courage, peace, and prosperity, have become an important symbol of India's identity. Flag hoisting, along with singing Jana Gana Mana, the national song, makes the Indian people feel patriotic as the entire country is united.

The celebratory activities don’t only focus on religious ceremonies but also numerous cultural events with different folk performances. This includes telling stories of historical days, along with singing patriotic songs and many dance numbers. On this day, universities and schools will prepare unique programs that showcase the causes and effects of India's fight for independence, along with the progress that took place afterward. People will come together to celebrate their history, recall the past, and celebrate the future of the country with the same honour and pride as all other countries do. This is achieved through community services that contribute to the event and help make it a complete and meaningful occasion.

Conclusion:
August 15th marks India's triumphant liberation, a day of great historical and emotional significance. The end of the occupation era marked the beginning of a new chapter for India, as the country emerged as a free and democratic republic. The nation is filled with joy, and a deep sense of pride emerges alongside the country’s achievements and progress. These celebrations offer recreational benefits to people who exchange performances and pay tribute to the ongoing struggle for an equitable and thriving society. They not only honour the legacy of freedom but also inspire continued efforts towards building a more equitable society for future generations.

I hope you all enjoyed reading about this celebration of India’s journey and the progress it represents. Happy Indian Independence Day to everyone!
