Easter

Chapter 6

Easter, to a lot of us, means chocolate eggs and Easter bunnies. But what really is the story behind Easter, and why do we celebrate it?

The story of Easter:

Easter tells us the true story of Jesus Christ's resurrection and is celebrated as a Christian holiday. It all began when Jesus was arrested by Jewish leaders who accused him of blasphemy and inciting rebellion against the Roman Empire. Sadly, he was sentenced to death by crucifixion, then his body was placed in a tomb, and he was wrapped in linen cloth. The entrance of the tomb was sealed with a large stone to stop anyone from stealing the body.

However, on the third day, something miraculous happened during sunset. Mary Magdalene and other women came to anoint Jesus' body with spices but instead found the stone rolled away and Jesus' body gone.

Suddenly, two men in dazzling white robes appeared in front of the women and said, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified, and on the third day be raised again." This is from Luke 24:5-7.

The meaning of Easter symbolises the victory of life over death, good over evil, and love over hate. It is a time of hope, renewal, and rebirth. The Easter story shows us that even in the darkest times, there is always hope, and faith in God can conquer any obstacle.

As you can see, Easter means much more than just chocolate; it means all this. Did you know that chocolate eggs represent the large boulder that sealed the tomb where Jesus lay? And the Easter bunny represents spring and rebirth, like when Jesus rose from the dead.

I hope you learnt a bit more about Easter, and you can even do some research yourself if you want to learn more.
