Now that I think about it, its been 12 years since I've celebrated my birthday on mothers day.

5) So going along with class registration for next year I also have filled out a Seminar for that I will be doing in criminology. I'm so excited I cant wait. So I had to write up a few things in order to get this and guess what!! I GOT IT!!!So here's what I wrote:

Proposal:

In the fall of 2023 during my Junior Year, I took Criminology with Mrs. M. I had already known prior to going into this course that I had an interest in the subject but as the semester progressed my interest in this subject grew. Criminology is one of those topics that is always endless and keeps you thinking no matter what. In the fall I will be attending MCC to pursue a degree in Pre Law. In a criminology seminar with Mrs. M, I would be bettering my understanding of how different laws affect the process in the court system and how they are applied to different court cases. I think this seminar should be a college prep level because it will require several in-depth examinations of how each court applies certain laws, along with a higher level of thinking and analysis. This seminar will be heavily based in research, writing, note taking and analysis, giving me the opportunity to improve my note taking skills, writing skills and also take a closer look at the topics that were briefly covered in criminology. With this seminar I would like to develop a deeper understanding of the topics listed below. I also believe that this seminar would challenge me and get me prepared for my studies in the fall.

Goals:

Gain a better understanding of the different laws such as Procedural, Substantive, Civil, Constitutional, Statutory, and Common.

Gain a better understanding of what each law means and how the different laws are used when it comes to criminal and civil cases

Gain a better understanding of how different laws are put into action when it comes to Procedural Law, Substantive Law, Civil Law, Constitutional Law, Statutory Law, and Case (common) Law.

Objectives:

Unit 1: Civil Law

Examine types of law regulating relationships between individuals and involves property contracts business disputes.

Research the seven principles essential for a crime to have been committed and write a 2-3 page analysis of how the different types of laws and regulations that go along with each of them are implicated

Materials/Media:

Read and write a 1-2 page analysis of the facts presented in “Civil Law & Litigation for Paralegals”

Read “Rules and Laws for Civil Actions: 2023” and write a paper explaining the basics of the civil law procedure

Watch HBO’s “Hot Coffee” and write a 1-2 page analysis explaining how it portrays the process of lawsuits

Unit 2: Procedural Law:

Look at different scenarios that procedural law in some jurisdictions comprises the rules by which a court hears.

Complete a chart showing

what happens in civil

what happens in lawsuits

what happens in criminal or administrative proceedings

Final Essay (1-2 pages) putting civil, lawsuits, criminal, or administrative proceedings and how they work during a trial

Materials/Media:

Read “Procedural Law” and write a summary of the information presented

Read and write a 1-2 page analysis on “The Role of Substantive Law and Procedure in the Legal system”

Unit 3: Substantive Law

Study the eight Defenses based on lack of criminal intent and how each of them fit into a certain scenario

Final Project is to put together a slideshow (not presented) explaining how the eight laws work and what scenario they are normally used with. I will be using examples and do an overview of each

Materials/Media:

Read “Basic Laws” and write a 1-2 page summary

Read “The Rule of Law” and create an infographic detailing 8 of the laws

Watch “12 Angry Men”, write a summary and identify each law used

Portfolio:

I plan to create a Google Slides presentation that defines and explains how each different branch of law works. In addition, I would be taking a midterm which consists of writing a 2-3 page essay in MLA format about what I have learned so far about the different types of laws. Also I plan to put the knowledge I have gained into the Mock trial as a lawyer. Lastly, when everyone else is taking the final I will also be doing a final of my own which consists of writing a 5-6 page essay diving deep into what I have learned about the different laws and how they are implicated in court trials and everyday life over the course of the semester.

Anyways I will be updating more and more as the school year winds down so ya that's all for now!

~Luv
