What's the story this month?

Chapter 12

On this particular day, Eva woke up more cheerful than usual. Today was her first day in second grade, and she was so excited to see all her friends again. She had spent most of her summer traveling and visiting family, so she didn't have much time to play with her friends. Eva woke up before her alarm went off, and she was ready for everything this day would bring. But there was one thing she hadn't planned for - her first use of magic. Eva had grown up surrounded by magic her entire life, having heard endless tales of Hogwarts, and she was aware that both of her parents were magical. Her sister enrolled at Hogwarts the same year she turned eleven. Eva was holding out hope for a letter from Hogwarts as well. However, she had little time to consider Hogwarts today—all she could think about was going into grade 2. She was finally not among the youngest students at school.

Eva woke up and jumped out of bed, sprinting to the bathroom. She had laid out her outfit the night before and was looking forward to putting it on. She had gone shopping with her aunt in the summer, and she had given her a beautiful light purple dress, which she paired with white sneakers for this day. When she was done getting ready, she walked to the kitchen, where her parents were making breakfast. They were making pancakes, Eva's favorite. As she took a pancake and began to devour it, she told herself, "Nothing can ruin this day."

Her sister came storming down the stairs, stressed and screaming over some things. Eva was feeling perplexed, as she didn't quite understand what was going on. Her parents appeared to be equally puzzled. After giving them a long look, her sister grumbled something along the lines of "nobody ever understands anything around here" and slumped down hard in the chair next to Eva. Eva tried to ask her sister what was going on, but all she got in return was a cold stare. Eva said to herself, "Whatever, I'm going to have a perfect day today," and she kept eating her pancake.

Eva took a pancake and gave it to her sister with a smile. Her sister returned the smile and grabbed the syrup. At that moment, Eva reached for another pancake, and their hands collided. Eva’s sister dropped the syrup, and it spilled everywhere, including Eva’s new dress. Eva got so irate and unhappy that her new dress was ruined. It felt like she was exploding, she had no control over what she was feeling. At the same time, the pancake she was holding just seconds ago was floating in the air.

The pancake only managed to stay in the air for a few seconds before it fell straight to the floor. Eva looked confused at her parents, who were smiling widely. Even her sister was grinning at this point. She did not understand what they were all were so happy about. “Why are you all smiling? She ruined my new dress! It’s completely ruined, and who made the pancake fly anyway? Why try to save the pancake and then just let it fall on the floor, but not save my dress?” Eva said it loudly, on the verge of tears. Then she understood that she was the one who made the pancake fly, and she turned to face her parents, wanting an explanation for why they had preserved the pancake rather than her dress.. She had done magic! She was also a witch, just like her sister, and would soon attend Hogwarts. Eva was also smiling now. She jumped up and down in happiness, forgetting all about her ruined dress, which her mother fixed by washing it.
