NEWS ARTICLE - The Feature Weeks

Classes have ended, and the students who aren’t using break to try to catch up to the year ahead of them are enjoying a well-earned rest. However, to ensure no one gets bored, a few professors have decided to once again offer a variety of Feature Weeks! Ranging from magizoology to writing, participating in one or all of the three, fun-filled courses is an excellent way to spend your break.

The first Feature Week is the third annual Creature Feature, this time focusing on nine different prehistoric, extinct (we hope) creatures. As of the release of this issue, all nine lessons are up, full of facts and stories about the Woolly Mammoth, Saber Toothed Tiger, Dodo Bird, Megatherium, Gigantopithecus, Megaladon, Tasmanian Tiger, Deinosuchus, and Titanoboa. This course is led by our wonderful CoMC professors, Professor Anne and Professor Cattercorn, and is definitely worth checking out if you’re interested in magizoology, Muggle zoology, history, legendary creatures, or any combination of the four.

Calling all writers! The second available Feature Week this break is Hogwarts Novel Writing Week (HNWW), a writing camp that allows both students participating in Camp NaNoWriMo, a Muggle writing program or simply students who love to write to earn house points for their writing, submitted in chunks of about 750 words. The lesson content includes advice on how to improve your story structure, character names, storytelling, setting, and more. Along with this course is the Write Your Heart Out Contest, which entails submitting your final work in Lesson Nine, where other students will vote for the best overall, best Harry Potter-themed, best comedy, best tragedy, and best use of challenge prompts. This course is led by Professor Greenwich, the librarian, and is a perfect Feature Week for anyone who loves to write.

The final Feature Week is Games Week, an entertaining course covering ancient, medieval, and magical games of all types. These games include Senet, Mancala, Go, Pachisi, Wizard's Chess, Quidditch, and more. This course also allows for a lot of creativity in assignments, which keeps you busy while you wait for the next lesson to be posted. This course is led by Professor Rosenquist and is a great bet if you love learning about all types of games and entertainment.

In conclusion, each of these Feature Weeks is unique and entertaining, a perfect option for any HiH-er looking for something fun to do over break. Thank you to all the professors and prefects who make them possible!
