Book Chosen: Embracing Adversity

Author: Ramie Lovell

(Rated by Luna Silverprint)

Embracing Adversity has a start up for an exciting book. Even with only three chapters so far, I was drawn in and want to read more. I highly recommend this book.

Coleman’s Book of Wand was very helpful in discovering more about wands. It was informative and a quick read. I really enjoyed the writing style. I recommend this book to satisfy the yearning Ravenclaw in you.

Muggle Fiction:

Book Chosen: Ender's Game

Ender’s Game is an exciting action packed book filled with very interesting ideas. Once I started I couldn’t stop reading it. I recommend it for science fiction fans, especially if you’re interested in classics.

Muggle Fiction:

The Unfinished Song: Initiate (Book 1)

Author: Tara Maya

Genre: Muggle Young Adult Fantasy

(Rated by Victoria Lewis)

Unfinished Song-Initate-100.jpg

This book is free to download onto any Kindle platform on Amazon, so I figured why not give it a chance? I loved it! This is both a coming of age story and an adventure, set in its own world of magic. The story did feel a bit jumbled with all of the different points of view happening at once, and I didn't see the twist at the end coming but I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

This book describes the feeling when the pursuit of knowledge becomes a dangerous obsession. I felt that the material is a good start to a plot that could expand into a much longer story.

The chapters of this book so far are very interesting different points of view, but very short. It an interesting take on the next generation of the families we knew growing up at Hogwarts. I can't wait to see how this book develops.

Grace Waterson's Reviews:

Muggle Fiction:

Title: Fatherland

Author: Robert Harris

Genre: Alternate History/Detective

This book an extremely interesting read which kept me gripped right through to the end, although it does deal with some complex issues and so might not be suitable for the younger reader.

Set in 1964, “Fatherland” poses the rather terrifying question; What if Hitler had won the war? Following the character of Xavier March, a detective in the Berlin Kriminalpolizei, the reader is taken on his journey following the discovery of a body in the Havel River. Gradually, March comes to realise that he is caught up in a political scandal, and that there are some things that senior Nazi Party officials are keeping secret.

Fanfiction from the HiH Library:

Title: The Dimension Game Book One: A Triwizard Tournament

Author: Lilia Le Fay

Genre: Site Fanfiction

Current Status: Complete

Written by the ever-popular site author Lilia Le Fay, “A Triwizard Tournament” is, I think, the first fanfiction which I read on the site, and I found myself instantly drawn into it and unable to put it down!

“A Triwizard Tournament” is set in the era of the next generation, with characters like Albus Potter and Vlad Malfoy (younger brother to Scorpius) taking over the limelight from their parents. Once again the Triwizard Tournament has come to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but this time it brings with it a new mystery of its own to be solved - who is Lily Archeron?

Off Site Fanfiction

Title: Living in the Shadows

Author: RosesReality

Site: wattpad.com

Genre: Off-Site Fanfiction

Current Status: Complete (with the other two books in the series out and completed)

Sites where anyone can upload their own writing are usually full of trashy half-attempts at writing with no grammar, punctuation or structure. However, whenever I do stumble across great works of writing, I am reminded that there are some incredible authors out there who are writing some amazing books; “Living in the Shadows” being no exception.

“Living in the Shadows” tells the story of young Hazel Bowen, rescued from the orphanage that she was born in by a man called Mo and raised for a life as a spy who would potentially save the Wizarding World. This book follows Hazel as she grows up, trying to find some aspect of normality amongst her life, all the while trying to sort out her feelings for one of her best friends; Severus Snape.
