X-Men: Apocalypse [PG-13] - May 27

Set in 1983, this movie focuses on the X-Men as they come together to fight Apocalypse (the first mutant) and his four horsemen (including Magneto). We'll see younger versions of familiar characters, and of course the return of favorites from First Class and Days of Future Past. My biggest reason for being glad this movie is set in the past: Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy. Enough said.

Alice Through the Looking Glass [PG] -  May 27

In what looks to be an even weirder sequel to an already weird movie (2010's Alice in Wonderland), Alice returns to Wonderland to find it and her friends in terrible danger. If you liked the first movie, or if you like really weird stuff in general, maybe check this one out.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows [PG-13] - June 3

If you're very attached to the TMNT cartoons from your childhood, I hear these movies aren't very good. But if all you're looking for is some ridiculous action, overblown bad guys, and a few legitimately funny bits, you might enjoy this movie. Also, Stephen Amell stars as a hockey stick wielding vigilante. (This is the main reason I want to see this one. The man is drop-dead gorgeous, plus a great actor to boot.)

Me Before You [PG-13] - June 3

If adolescent genetically altered crime fighting turtles aren't your thing (or if you think Sam Claflin is more attractive than Stephen Amell), then maybe give this movie a shot. It follows the story of a young woman who becomes the caretaker for a man recently paralyzed in an accident. And of course, it's a love story.

Now You See Me 2 [PG-13] - June 10

The Four Horsemen return in this sequel, where they’re forced into stealing something for a tech prodigy, and then must pull off their biggest stunt yet in order to clear their names. For all you HP movie fans, this movie’s got Daniel Radcliffe as the new villain. For all you fans of magic in general, this movie promises to be awesome.

Warcraft [PG-13] - June 10

If you aren’t up to the mental contortions required to keep up with the Four Horsemen (see above), this movie might be for you. Inspired by the popular video game of the same name, this movie looks to be a fantasy action flick. So far as I can tell, the plot involves orcs, humans, portals, and lots of fighting. If that sounds like your thing, go for it!

Finding Dory [PG] - June 17

This long-awaited sequel to Finding Nemo is the story of Dory’s quest to find her missing family. If it’s even half as good as the first film, this will be a movie that’s great for the whole family. It’s Pixar, so it’s pretty safe bet that it will make you laugh, get all emotional, and generally have a good time at the movies.

❊Preacher, Season 1 - May 22

A small-town Texas preacher is inhabited by a supernatural being that gives him an unusual power, and lives in a world where the supernatural and the spiritual are real, and present. Based on a comic series, I think AMC is hoping this will appeal to fans of The Walking Dead. (This show is rated TV-MA, for good reason.)

Wayward Pines, Season 2 - May 25

Welcome to Wayward Pines, Idaho - a mysterious small town whose residents can never leave. Season two of this sci-fi thriller premieres on Fox this week, introducing some new characters, and promising a continuation of the creepy suspense the show is known for.

Bloodline, Season 2 - May 27

The second season of this intense drama premieres on Netflix this week. Bloodline follows the Rayburns, a seemly normal Florida family hiding dark secrets from the past. Season one was incredibly gripping and dark, and season two looks to be more of the same. (Warning: this show is rated TV-MA.)

American Ninja Warrior, Season 8 - June 1

The eighth season of this high intensity reality show premieres on NBC this June. It’s always fun to watch top athletes perform, and American Ninja Warrior is guaranteed to make you wonder at the strength and agility that these folks possess.

Beauty and the Beast, Season 4 - June 2

The fourth and final season of this genre show airs on the CW starting this June. It follows a detective, Catherine, whose life is turned upside down when she meets Vincent, who undergoes a rather unique transformation whenever he gets angry or upset. I know the show has a very devoted fan base, so there must be something there to like.

Angie Tribeca, Season 2 - June 6

Season two of this comedy show is coming to TBS in June. The show follows the life of its titular detective, and is framed as a satire, spoofing the typical police procedural. If you’re tired of the million procedurals that seem to saturate primetime television, this may be just the show for you.

The Last Ship, Season 3 - June 12

Imagine a global pandemic that kills more than 80% of the world’s population. Now imagine that you’re part of the crew of a US Navy destroyer that managed to escape the virus. It’s up to you to find a cure and save humanity, but the world is falling apart around you. Welcome to The Last Ship. The third season of this show premieres on TNT in June.

❊BrainDead, Season 1 - June 13

Ever wonder why the government can’t get anything done? BrainDead, coming to CBS this June, proposes an answer: some sort of creature is eating Congressmen’s brains. From the previews, this show looks like a delightful mix of humor and horror, with a dash of politics thrown in for good measure.

Aquarius, Season 2 - June 16

Go read the TV reviews section for my in-depth review of this amazing series, then make sure you don't miss its two-hour, commercial-free premiere this June on NBC. Quick summary: Los Angeles, 1967. Charles Manson is building his cult and Detective Sam Hodiak is tracking him, while hippies butt heads with traditionalists, racism rears its ugly head, and moral quandaries and deceptions abound. (A warning to younger viewers: most of the show is TV-14, but two episodes are rated TV-MA.)

Orange is the New Black, Season 4 - June 17

The fourth season of this hit comedy-drama will be available mid-June on Netflix. The show is set in a women’s prison, and follows the lives of the inmates. (A warning: this show is rated TV-MA.)
