-Literacy Competition-

For this issue’s competition you will need to create another character - only this time the character will be a second generation character of your choice. However, just because I say “create” doesn't mean he/she can't be a well known and already existing character such as Albus Potter or Hugo Weasley. You will simply need to elaborate on such a character, as we know much about the existing 2nd generation characters.

If you are creating a whole new character, there are two guidelines to follow:

1. Make sure you mention their family ties

2. Make sure their parent(s)/guardian(s) are characters we know

Also, you may make them the offspring of well known characters who have already mentioned a child (I.e. if you made your character the third child of Ron and Hermione Weasley).

Winners will be judged for diversity, inventiveness, detail and complexity. So go on - it doesn't take much and we love to receive new writing! There's also a prize for the winners: you get to choose a teaser fan fiction from this book and request a chapter from one of them!

-Winner of Previous Competition-

Last month we had some great submissions for the twist and I am pleased to announce we have three winners this time round! The winning entries were judged on inventiveness, diversity and temptation – here they are!:

Winner #1 - Sophie McD

Sophie won because of the inventiveness of her character, and because of how much it changed the HP story-line!

NAME: Lexa

GENDER: Female

HOGWARTS HOUSE: Slytherin

AGE:16

FAMILY DETAILS:

She is alone and has no family.

APPEARANCE:

5"6, long brown slightly wavy hair, tanned, all she wears is black.

CHARACTER/PERSONALITY:

She is very sarcastic and makes a joke out of everything, this is how she copes with everything ever since her parents were captured by the aurors Frank and Alice Longbottom she has used this as her way of coping with everything

HOW DO THEY CREATE A TWIST?:

She wants her revenge for losing her parents, she becomes very close to Draco Malfoy and becomes best friends with Pansy Parkinson. She tells them about her parents and they help her decide to take her revenge. They grab hold of Neville Longbottom on his way back up to the castle from Herbology in his fourth year. They start shooting at him with the Cruciatus Curse and Pansy decides that it would be a good idea to use the killing curse, but Neville manages to dodge it and it hits someone that was coming round the corner, Hermione Granger, accompanied by Ron Weasley and Harry Potter. Hermione drops to the ground with a thud, Ron drops to his knees in tears and Harry stands frozen in shock, this only lasts a second as he realizes what's going on and steps in to help Neville, but he gets hit with the body binding curse as he couldn't focus, he had lost one of his best friends, the brightest witch in their year, gone. It was all Lexa's fault he wouldn't let her get away with this, he didn't know how he was going to move past this and get on with his life but he knew he had to, for Ron's sake, he will never get past this, although he had never admitted it, he loved Hermione, so Harry knew that it would hit him like a ton of bricks, his first love was gone and he had never got the chance to tell her he loved her. Harry didn't know how he and Ron were going to manage to get on with school never mind their lives knowing that they will never see or speak to their best friend Hermione Granger ever again.

Winner #2 - Jamie Pevensie

Jamie won because of her interesting and inventive idea, which captivated us and made us want to find out more.

NAME: Belinda Malfoy (she goes by Bell, I chose the name because it means 'pretty snake' xD). She commonly goes by Bell Lupin

GENDER: Female

HOGWARTS HOUSE: Hufflepuff

AGE: Bell is eleven when the story starts, but she ages over the course of the book.

FAMILY DETAILS:

Belinda lived with her family for the first eight years of her life, groomed to represent the family and their beliefs at Hogwarts perfectly. However, when walking in London, she made a number of Muggle friends and Muggleborn friends, and when her parents found out, they were furious. Lucius and Narcissa had a screaming row with her, and when Lucius slapped her (for the first time in her life) Bell ran upstairs to her room. She packed some things and ran away, and none of her family had heard from her since.

APPEARANCE:

Bell is pale and thin, slightly muscular. She has a haunted air and a jumpy nature about her, from bad dreams and always being on the run with her adoptive father, Remus Lupin. Her hair was pale, shining blonde, but Lupin helps her dye it regularly, so it's a mousy brown shade (she wanted to blend as much as possible) except for one streak that she leaves blonde, to remind herself of who she really is. Her eyes are grey, with small flecks of blue. She is short, quiet, and unassuming.

CHARACTER/PERSONALITY:

Bell is quiet, likes to read and hide. She's reticent, and her past haunts her. She has nightmares often, and never lets herself sit and think, never lets herself catch up with herself. As a result of this fear, she throws herself into all kinds of activities both at Hogwarts and outside of it, none of which she is any good at. When she is with Lupin, her adoptive father, she loosens up a bit and has fun with him, because he loves her no matter who she is. She is good at lying, her only tic is an internal cringe, and she especially lies when she's near her brother.

HOW DO THEY CREATE A TWIST?

Bell goes to Hogwarts and is sorted into Hufflepuff, but she is instantly reluctant to accept the offers of friendship that surround her. She hesitantly befriends Hannah Abbott, who becomes her confidant. Bell meets Draco Malfoy, her brother, and the two seem instantly connected, though they don't know why, exactly. She is also friends with Hermione Granger, which makes Draco hate her. As the story continues, Bell has more and more trouble concealing her secret, especially one day when her hair dye fades and she's revealed as a blonde. She eventually is discovered as a Malfoy by her friends, and will have to decide- will she stay true to herself or rejoin her family? Her choice will determine not only her path, but the paths of her friends Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and those of her adoptive father, her brother, and her true parents as well.

Winner #3 - Alicia Lestrange

Alicia won because of her interesting character and the detail which she put into it.

NAME: Alice Lestrange

GENDER: Female

HOGWARTS HOUSE: Gryffindor

AGE: Born in 1981

FAMILY DETAILS:

She is the daughter of Bellatrix Lestrange. Although everyone believes she is the daughter of Rodolphus Lestrange. She is actually Voldemort's.

APPEARANCE:

Pale white with beautiful black long wavy hair. Deep blue-green eyes like her father's. Tall and slim.

CHARACTER/PERSONALITY:

She was top of her class, a very smart and talented witch. She was a very good Quidditch player (keeper). Incredible at potions. She was loved by everyone. Although her weakness is blood.

HOW DO THEY CREATE A TWIST?

Ever since the first year, she became best friends with Ginny Weasley. One day she found the Diary of Tom Riddle amongst her things. She knew that her family was fond of the Dark Arts and threw it away. Lucius had planted it on Alice for her to communicate with her real father, but it fell into the wrong hands. This is how Ginny found it and she opened the Chamber of Secrets. Alice never realised it. Everything was normal at Hogwarts and happy, Ginny and Alice were still best friends. Then at her third year after the Tri Wizard Tournament and Voldemort had risen from the dead, he and Bellatrix went looking for their daughter. Voldemort told her that he needed Potter and that she shall do anything in her will to please him. Her mother also begged and convinced her. Although, Alice was confused. Although next September, there was something funny about Hogwarts..... Umbridge!!!!! This was the year of Dumbledore's Army which Alice of course was invited to join and she did. She was amazing at everything she set her mind to. Even captivating Harry Potter. Ginny could not believe her eyes, she was always in love with Harry, of course. When she came to confront Alice, she told her that she thought that Ginny was over Harry ever since she was with Michael. Ginny was furious although she didn't want anyone to know. Alice was the one who led Harry to Voldemort in the Department of Misteries and no one ever realised it. She continued in a relationship with Harry, informing everything to her father. Except everything about the Horcruxes because Dumbledore told Harry specifically to only tell Ron and Hermione. Alice was left on the outside. Her father began torturing her when he realised that Harry was destroying him slowly but surely. When Harry came to Hogwarts at the end he saw her and couldn't believe his eyes. She looked sick and tortured. And when she thought Harry was dead, she killed Nagini herself. Publicly shamed her father. Voldemort had killed Alice. Bellatrix was crying, her only daughter. That's when Harry showed himself to be alive and finished Voldemort. (sorry for my grammar English is not my first language)
