New And Coming Soon! - Including, 'The Jungle Book'

Chapter 16

-New and Coming Soon-

All movie and TV premiere dates are for the US, but hopefully this will still be helpful for those of you in other parts of the world as well, to give you an idea of what you might be interested in seeing!

Movies:

The Jungle Book [PG] - April 15

From the trailers so far, this reimagining of both Kipling's classic book and the animated Disney movie we all knew and loved as kids promises to deliver a story that holds true to both its predecessors. There's also a whole slew of famous actors voicing the animals - go look up the cast list if you're interested. I'm very excited to see how they handle this retelling of one of my favorite childhood stories.

Criminal [R] - April 15

When a CIA agent is killed in the middle of a mission, his memories are transferred to an ex-con so that the mission can continue. Then things get complicated. If you’re looking for some good spy-thriller action, this looks like a promising candidate.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War [PG-13] - April 22

Honestly, I will watch anything Chris Hemsworth is in, no matter how bad it is, so I'm planning on seeing this. It's a prequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, so if you hated the first movie, you might want to avoid this one. Then again, the cast for this one includes some pretty awesome actresses, so maybe give it a shot?

Captain America: Civil War [PG-13] - May 6

If you don't know what this one's about, you've probably been living under a rock. For you rock-dwellers: Cap finds Bucky, the government thinks superheroes are getting too powerful, and Cap and Tony end up heading opposing sides of the resulting conflict. This is without a doubt my most-anticipated movie of 2016. Go watch the trailers, freak out (again and again), and start counting down the days…

Television:

❊Shows with an asterisk are new this year.

❊American Grit, Season 1 - April 14

On this new reality TV show airing on Fox, teams of contestants work together to overcome military-grade and survival-based challenges. Mentors from the military work with the teams, and John Cena hosts. If you're a fan of shows such as Survivor and American Ninja Warrior, you should probably check this one out.

Orphan Black, Season 4 - April 14

The fourth season of this highly acclaimed sci-fi drama premieres this month on BBC America. If what I see on Tumblr is any indication, this show features strong characters, superb acting, and a compelling story about a group of clones. It's on my to-watch list, and if dark sci-fi is your thing, it should probably be on yours too. (A warning: this show is rated TV-MA.)

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Season 2 - April 15

Funny, light-hearted, and sweet, the second season of this delightful series premieres on Netflix this month. After spending most of her life trapped in an underground bunker as part of a weird cult, this show follows Kimmy as she makes a life for herself in New York City. It's sure to put a smile on your face, and I would highly recommend it.

12 Monkeys, Season 2 - April 18

The second season of this sci-fi drama premieres on Syfy this month. The show follows a man who travels back in time, attempting to prevent the release of a virus that nearly wipes out humanity by the year 2043. This one is also on my to-watch list, and if you’re a fan of SFF/thriller TV shows, you’ll see several familiar faces in the cast.

❊Containment, Season 1 - April 19

Airing on the CW, this 13-episode event series takes place in Atlanta, during a disease outbreak and the resulting quarantine. The setup leaves lots of room to explore both the best and worst of humanity under crisis, so if you like that sort of thing, be sure to check this show out.

Person of Interest, Season 5 - May 3

The fifth and final season of this unique procedural will air on CBS this spring. The show follows Finch, a reclusive genius who created a program that predicts violent crimes, and Reese, former special forces and CIA, who was recruited by Finch to help prevent those crimes. I haven’t seen past season one, but the combination of action, mystery, drama, and unexpected plot twists makes this show quite interesting.
