Chapter 4
Leela did her best to act normal like her mom wanted, but it was hard. Life wasn't the same without her father. The months were the hardest she had ever have, but she soon fell into a numb pattern. Wake up, eat breakfast, go to school, come home, eat dinner, fall asleep, repeat. Until the day. A year after her dad disappeared, she heard a scuffling sound from her window. Three shapes dressed in black with masks crept into her room and grabbed her. Before she could scream, one of them shove a sickly sweet smelling cloth against her face. A sedative. She fought it, but it was to strong and her head was clouding. The next thing she knew, she was waking up in a room with a bunch of swords pointed at her and people staring at her. "Welcome to the Better Place. You are here to serve. Congratulations on your new job, slave," the only person not holding a sword told her. It took her a minute to register what she said. Slave? Then it hit her. She had been kidnapped. She was one of the Disappeared, and this was where they were taken. Better Place? It seemed horrible. "Get up. It is time for you to begin your new job," the woman ordered. She was forced to her feet and marched to a different room. This one was larger, but crowded with about twenty women asleep on the floor. "This is where you will stay when you aren't working" a guard informed her while untying her hands and shoving her away from him. "Get some rest. Work starts early for you."
