You open your tiny brown eyes for the first time to find that you are lying on a branch of the very tree that has just formed you.  You feel its magical presence and recognize it as an alder tree.  On another branch just above you, you see an elderly Bowtruckle who has seen many things during his life and is very wise.  It is staring at you, and waiting for you to do something.  You don't know if you should stay there and lie still, climb up and go see this other Bowtruckle, or scuttle off and try to hide.

Go to chapter 3 if: you lie still on the branch, and wait for it to come down and see what it does to you.

Go to chapter 4 if: you run off as fast as your spindly legs can, even though you have never used them before, and hide behind a leaf or anything else you can find.

Go to chapter 5 if: you slowly get up and try to climb up the tree to meet the Bowtruckle.
