My Handbook of Duelling

written by Hiya Debnath

This book was created by me as a handbook of duelling using information from all the lessons covered at Hogwarts in different subjects from the first year to the seventh year at Hogwarts along with my personal tips for duelling to guide others and me and help others and me in my duelling practice and in my duels in the wizarding world. You will not find the rules of engagement in this book, because I believe you already know it, but you will find a lot of basic and advanced information about and for duelling, that will be helpful and useful to you and me.

Dark Artefacts

Chapter 73

Dark Artefacts can also be used to cause significant harm to your opponents or foes. You could use some of them in duelling.(using dark magic and associating with the Dark Arts has consequences, you could lose your bodily form like the notorious Voldemort. Once you are in the grip of the Dark Arts, it is difficult to come out)However, even if you do not use them, you must know how to protect yourself against them. Because as I said before, dark wizards will nevertheless use them on you, so you need to know the appropriate defense.

I will only discuss three dark artefacts here. There are many more, but I should leave some research to you, so that you find and stumble upon things that I did not find. That will help you to continously seek more knowledge about dark artefacts, which will be useful to you against your opponents or foes in innumerable ways. The scariest part of the Dark Arts is that they can never be defeated - can never be completely known. Once we know them, once we have “beaten” one aspect of them, another will take its place and the beaten branch will simply come back stronger than before; it will have learned new tricks that make the old methods ineffective. We can never conquer the Dark Arts... we can only hold them back. - Defense Against the Dark Arts Lesson 1, 1st year, Hogwarts Institute.

Hand of Glory- It is a severed hand from a dead corpse, which only gives light to it's wielder in the dark, but not to others.

Horcruxes- These are objects that contain fragments of a dark wizard's soul, that were made by the dark wizard to keep him immortal. Each horcrux needs a murder, that is a sacrifice of a life, to create. Anyone who finds the Horcrux of a dark wizard, except the dark wizard themselves, and stays near it for a long time, gets affected by it's darkness, which causes the individual to act unnaturally and sometimes negatively. Horcruxes must be destroyed using one of the Horcrux destroyers- Basilisk venom, Fiendfyre, Godric Gryffindor's sword.

Fiendfyre- Fiendfyre, created by the Fiendfyre Curse (Pestis Incendium), is a deadly fire with enchanted flames of immense size and heat that are capable of destroying nearly anything and everything in its path, taking the form of gigantic fiery magical beasts such as serpents, Chimaeras, dragons, and eagles of prey that seek out living targets. Fiendfyre is one of the most powerful, sinister, and dangerous spells known to Wizardkind. It also requires extreme skill and intense concentration to control. It burns at severely high temperature and cannot be extinguished by normal or enchanted water. It is also very difficult for the caster to control, flowing from their wand in a continuous stream of flame. If the caster flicks their wand when the stream of flame is still running from it, a jet of fire will shoot off and become a flaming animal. When cast, the fire appears with a roaring, billowing noise and gives it's opponent only a split-second's warning to escape, quickly consuming anything in the vicinity of its caster. Fiendfyre can only be stopped by it's caster. It is possible that the General Counter-Spell(Finite or Finite Incantatem), works against Fiendfyre, stopping it, but I do not exactly know if that is a true fact. With that in mind, I will discuss the General Counter-Spell here:-

Spell Block: -

Incantation- Finite, pronounced as fi-NEE-tay, or Finite Incantatem, pronounced as fi-NEE-tay in-can-TAH-tem.

Wand Movement- A double scalloped line from left to right then vertically downwards then diagonally downwards to the right halfway then diagonally upwards to the right then vertically upwards, somewhat in the shape of a Hogwarts crest badge.

Willpower- Low.

Concentration- Moderate.
