The Wizarding Gourmet - Florean Fortescue'S Ice Cream Parlour

Chapter 28

The Wizarding Gourmet

Today, as a little change of pace, I got to go home and visit my parents over the weekend. We took a trip into Diagon Alley to get me some new robes, as I keep outgrowing mine, and we stopped at Florean Fortescue's for ice cream afterwards.
Let it be noted that I had to try on twenty-seven sets of robes before I found the right pair. TWENTY SEVEN. It took an hour, and I was exhausted and sore by the end of it. I finally found a set that I didn't hate (I've never liked buying fancy dress robes- dresses yes, dress robes no), so we went to the ice cream shop.

The atmosphere inside was reminiscent of an old Muggle ice cream parlor from the early 20th century. Everything was white or pale purple or mint green, with accents of gold and gold faucets and light fixtures. Everything was pristine, light and airy inside and full of people. Everywhere you looked, there were tables full of families and couples and friends and single diners sitting at the counter. We got seated pretty quickly by the optimistic proprietor of the shop, in a booth in the corner.

We perused the menus, and I was amazed by the sheer number of flavors available. There were some of the basic Muggle flavors, chocolate and vanilla and strawberry and pistachio and whatnot. But there was also Black Licorice Twist and Butterbeer Barrel and Jelly Slug and Coconut Ice and this new experimental flavor called Cockroach Cluster. I could have sat there for hours debating about what ice cream flavor to get, but my younger sister ordered Butterbeer Barrel for me and called it a day, so that was that.

When the ice cream came, my eyes nearly bugged out of my head. Each sundae was towering, topped in whipped cream and candies. My sister had a Fizzing Whizz shake, with Peppermint Humbug ice cream. It was foaming and spitting, and a blob of pinkish-red foam flew across the table and hit me on the nose.
My ice cream was tan, with bits of Butterbeer barrel candies studded throughout. I took a cautious spoonful (my sister likes to steal my spoon) and swallowed. It tasted amazing, just like a real Butterbeer from the Three Broomsticks. The bits of candy crunched under my teeth, and the whipped cream on top squished everywhere when I put my spoon back in the dish.

What do you know, my sister stole half of my ice cream and told me it was payback for the time I took her favorite shirt and wore it to Hogwarts.
