Chapter 22

Darkness

Written by Jamie Pevensie

Myka has been raised by the Weasley family her entire life. She has never known anything different - she doesn't believe what Fred and George, her older brothers, say about her being adopted. Sure, she looks completely different than they do. So what? They're her family...right? But when enrolls at Hogwarts, she is sorted into Slytherin. Intrigued, she wants to know more but is scared to venture into the unknown. Until, for a family project in History of Magic, she starts to write about Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and her little sister Ginny, but it just doesn't feel right. Instead, she goes on a quest to discover who she is, where she comes from, and why someone has left a note telling her that she has the power to save the entire wizarding world - or destroy it.

Chapter Three.

Myka shouldered her book bag and headed down to breakfast, to the Slytherin table. There was a funny feeling going on inside of her, a battle between her head and her heart.

Your whole family's been in Gryffindor. What are Mum and Dad going to say?

Don't be silly. Slytherin is where I really belong. Besides, I look nothing like the rest of my family, what's one more difference?

But all of your brothers here are in Gryffindor- that's the house you're supposed to hate.

What says I have to hate them because they're in a different house?

Squaring her shoulders, she headed for the Slytherin table in the Great Hall. She could survive one meal with the Slytherins- right? Here went nothing. Myka inhaled softly and walked towards the table. I can do this. I am not afraid. If I show fear, people will know that I'm terrified. If I display strength, I will give the illusion of pride and nonchalance.

She took a seat and grabbed a piece of toast from the floating rack nearby. "How are you all today?"
Dead silence. Then the blond boy from the train jerked his chin at her. "So you're a Slytherin?" he drawled, staring at her judgmentally. "Seeing as you're a Weasley, I thought you'd be a sure Gryffindor."
Myka looked him right in the eye, focusing her gaze. "Maybe I'm not what I seem," she said coolly, folding her arms across her chest.
He scoffed. "Whatever you are, you're not going to last five minutes in Slytherin. I'll see to that."
She resumed her breakfast time food consumption, his words ringing in her ears. You won't last five minutes in Slytherin. But what if she could? What if her heart was right- Slytherin was where she belonged? It had felt so right yesterday, being told that the house of the snake was her home now.

* * * * * *

In Potions class, Myka took a seat next to a dark-haired girl named Adelaide. Adelaide didn't talk much, just sat staring across the classroom at a boy named Blaise Zabini. Myka herself was trying to look anywhere but at that awful Malfoy boy. Her eyes focused on the tall, bat-like teacher of Potions, Professor Snape. He locked his gaze on hers and studied her for a moment. "Ah, Miss...Weasley. It has been a long time since I last saw you...a long time indeed."
