The Wizarding Gourmet - Madam Puddifoot'S Tearoom

Chapter 23

The Wizarding Gourmet

Regretting my last issue's decision to review the Hog's Head pub in Hogsmeade Village, I made the decision to go somewhere lighter and more pleasant. As Valentine's Day was fast approaching, I grabbed Jack, one of my loyalest guy friends, and headed to Madame Puddifoot's Tea Shop.
Madame Puddifoot's is a polished pink shop on the exterior, comfortable and warm, reminding one of a doll's house. I stepped in apprehensively, and was greeted by a blast of hot air and high, piping music. Everything smelled of Red Roses perfume. Jack gagged, not an unreasonable response. A larger woman in a frilly apron came bustling over with her arm's full of menus. She led us over to a table near the fogged-up windows. Jack tried to make a run for it, but I grabbed the back of his robes and forced him to sit.

The ambiance of the room was that of an exploded Valentine's card made by a three year old with excessive confetti. Lace was snarled around everything, as were strands of pink, scarlet, and silver tinsel. Scented confetti shaped like hearts shook gently down in a snowfall from the ceiling. A harp was playing from somewhere unseen, and the arrangement of roses in the center of the froufrou tablecloth was sky-high.

I ordered a latte and a cinnamon bun (me and my notorious sweet tooth). Jack ordered coffee, black (like his soul, he said), and nothing else. I begged him, in my cutest little Puffling voice, to please please please just order one measly little piece of chocolate cherry cheesecake. He did, but grumbling at me that I would have to pay him back for it.

When the food came, Jack tucked into his coffee. I cut my cinnamon roll in half, jammed one half into my mouth immediately, took a sip of latte. The cinnamon roll was sweet and gooey, more glaze than roll, just the way I like it. The glaze was thick and sweet, and I consumed the other half of the roll with ladylike bites. The latte was in one of those teensy glasses that they serve espresso in, and it took me all of three sips to finish it. It was...I actually don't know how it tasted, I was busy with my roll.

I also ate the cheesecake that Jack had been so ambivalent about. It was delicious, sweet and chocolatey, exactly what anyone wants in a slice of chocolate cherry cheesecake. Jack snagged exactly one and one third bites before I made the completely mature move of licking the cheesecake to claim it for myself.
The tab came to three Galleons, one Sickle, eight Knuts. Jack gave me the Sickle to pay for his coffee, and I paid the rest in annoyance. I was a Knut short, as I hadn't gone to Gringotts in quite a while. I had to add a Sickle to cover that plus tip.

Jack practically sprinted out the door, and then hit me with a snowball as revenge for me dragging him into the tea shop.
