WRITER'S ADVICE:

Always use detail. If you're ever lost for words, fill some space with lots of vocabulary and lengthy description. My favorite trick: Tap into all of your character's five senses. What does the scene look like? Do they hear any sounds? Are there any noticeable feelings? Do they taste anything (the tension, the adrenaline, the excitement)? Do they smell anything (smoke, frost, or if it's a scene at home, anything cooking or baking)? Adding descriptions like those stretch your story and make it feel more enjoyable to read.
