The motto for Porronarmous means ‘Strive for Success’

Porronarmous School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a Mexican
school located in the Northern Mexican Plateau. Unlike most wizarding schools,
it is not hidden in a valley or atop a mountain, instead being a traditional
Spanish castle built on flat ground. As well as hosting witches and wizards
from Mexico, Porronarmous School welcomes students from many different South
American Countries and some American students. It is another of the younger
schools founded because another institution was needed for South American students
besides Escuela de Magon (see Chapter 9). It is known for it’s detailed
syllabus and slightly different ways of teaching. The current head of school is
Juan Hollero, a young wizard who has a keen interest in Magical Politics and
was secretary for the Mexican Minister of Magic before taking over the school.

Founding:

The youngest magic school of the world, Porronarmous was founded
in 1965 when Escuela de Magon announced it could not take any more Mexican
students due to lack of space. Unfortunately the founding of Porronarmous is
not as exciting as in other schools and was founded by Mexican Ministry
official Rupez Decann. The school is very connected to the Ministry of Magic
because of this and there are many paintings of past Ministers in the school. Rupez
Decann only ran the school for a year and then handed the reins over to
Francesca Plutá in 1971.

Further History:

Due to its shortness in running, Porronarmous School of
Witchcraft and Wizardry does not have much history. The building is quite
modern and holds no ghosts or ancient corridors and such, and being run
smoothly by various headmasters and mistresses, the school has not experienced
any catastrophes, excluding the incident in 1979 when a student fell into a
bath sleepwalking and drowned due to her own fault.

Porronarmous did not participate in the struggles against Lord
Voldemort as the Mexican Ministry of Magic ultimately refused. The heads of
schools from it’s opening in 1970 are as follows:

Education:

There are eight years of study involved at Porronarmous School
of Witchcraft and Wizardry, seven required and one optional. The first seven
years of education are like that of Hogwarts, Eaglesclaw Academy and Snowdoor, Students
studying core classes for the first two years, selecting electives at third
year and then taking O.W.L.s of their subjects in their fifth year and chosen
N.E.W.Ts in their seventh. The eighth year of study will involve a course a
little like a degree in Muggle University or a wizarding career path, themed
with a variety of subjects, i.e. Magical Politics.

Students at Porronarmous start at the age of eleven. They are
not sorted into houses of any sort, simply placed into the first year according
to their age. As well as all normal core and elective courses, Porronarmous
notanly offers a special Sports course for eighth years.

Setting:

Imagine travelling through a bare, green land of slight rolling
hills and flat areas that run for miles. Deserted, where you are. Suddenly, a
modernised, huge villa-like building seems to pop up out of the ground as you
come over a slight hill. Stout and short but enormous in area and crafted out
of dusted sandstone.

Apparently, if anyone ever found Porronarmous, that is what effect
it would have on a tired wonderer on the seemingly endless area of remote
plateau that surrounds the school purposefully (it was enchanted to be both
unplottable and surrounded by nothing but the flat). The school, being fairly
modern, is a large building of sandstone, styled like a Spanish villa with
large, bay windows and plain but colourful designs within. A large wall of the
same sandstone surrounds the school and grounds, which consist of a Quidditch
pitch, swimming fool, combined Muggle sports ground, Herbology glasshouses and
care of magical creatures compound, as well as an apparently pleasant picnic
area for students to eat outside.

The school within is pleasant but not as exciting as other, it
is said, as it lacks ghosts and paintings and the rooms are furnished plainly.
However, each student has his/her own room, and though small, the dwellings are
apparently extremely confortable, with enough space for necessities. There is
also a common rom for each year, though students are different years are
allowed to interact, and a modernised dining hall with a constant buffet
throughout the day that changes depending on the time. The dining hall is set
up like a Muggle one would be, and though lacks the typical classic style, is
said to be more communal.

The grounds at Porronarmous are not as extensive as in other
schools, but are certainly said to be pleasant, with all the usual outdoor
structures and Muggle indoor and outdoor swimming pools that can be used all
year round. There is also a Muggle sports area that is made up of volleyball,
tennis and tennis courts as well as a football and rugby ground. There is a
jogging track running round the grounds and every day of the week a different
year class will run round it.

The school does have a Quidditch team but instead of houses
competing (Porronarmous does not houses so this would not work), the school
competes with other schools, smaller establishments and the main ones such as
Eaglesclaw and Escuela de Magon.
