LYRICS:

It's a little bit funny this feeling inside

I'm not one of those who can easily hide

I don't have much money but boy if I did

I'd buy a big house where we both could live

If I was a sculptor, but then again, no

Or a man who makes potions in a travelling show

I know it's not much but it's the best I can do

My gift is my song and this one's for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song

It may be quite simple but now that it's done

I hope you don't mind

I hope you don't mind that I put down in words

How wonderful life is while you're in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss

Well a few of the verses well they've got me quite cross

But the sun's been quite kind while I wrote this song

It's for people like you that keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting but these things I do

You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue

Anyway the thing is what I really mean

Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen

And you can tell everybody this is your song

It may be quite simple but now that it's done

I hope you don't mind

I hope you don't mind that I put down in words

How wonderful life is while you're in the world

I hope you don't mind

I hope you don't mind that I put down in words

How wonderful life is while you're in the world

How this could be adapted for a more Magical
Performance:

Lighting:

The lighting for this depending on what sort of mood you want to create, is usually blue in colour, though yellow, cream or gold is also suitable. A soft, romantic feel needs to be given off, unless you want to have a stab at a different take on the song. The lights should not be to bright, a sort of mid-dim. The usual spell can be cast for changing the light colour:

Incantation: Illuminaebrite “il-EW-mi-nay-BRITE

Wand Movement: Circle the bulb end of the light with your wand three times as you incant slowly.

Mental Requirements: Imagine the colours red and orange in your mind as you complete the wand movement and speak the incantation.

Effects: If cast correctly (which it should be – only a real amateur could fail to cast this spell), the stage light’s bulb (inner circular section of seemingly clear plastic) should turn on and produce a red-orange light. The red-orange ration is determined by which colour you were focusing on the most.

*The levels of concentration, willpower and focus are zero for this simple spell.

Once you’ve got this done, simply fix the light where you want it to be. With the Illuminating Stage Charm, the light does not need to be connected to any muggle electricity source. However, the charm usually only lasts an hour and will need to be re-cast after this amount of time.

Stage Atmosphere:

As said above with the lighting, a romantic feel should be given off, and the two main recommendations for this song are mist and glitter in the classical style of ‘Moulin Rouge’.

Synthetic Mist Producing Charm:

Incantation: factorem caligo “fac-TOR-emm ca-LEE-goe”

Wand Movement: Trace a snaking (wobbling, up and down waves) line from left to right with your wand whilst incanting.

Mental Requirements:  A moderate level of Focus and will power is needed for this spell, and low concentration so that when the mist is coming out your wand it will continue to do so.

Effects: Once correctly cast mist will start pouring from the tip of your wand. It will do this until you lose your hold on concentration, so it is easily stopped when you have the right level of mist. The mist will stay until cleared by an electric muggle fan or simple wind-producing spell. The mist is not moist and is only synthetic, meaning it has different properties but the same appearance to normal mist.

Falling Glitter Charm:

Incantation: fulgendim amictae ruinam “FUL-gen-dimm am-MICK-tay ru-AIN-am”

Wand Movement: Draw a semi circle with wobbly lines, imagine shaping a cloud.

Mental Requirements: Moderate levels of concentration and willpower are needed for this spell.

Effects: The spell, if correctly cast, should create a cloud above you. The cloud will stay stationary but rain glitter continuously until removed with a simple fire charm, as the clouds will need to be burned to destroy them. The glitter rained from these clouds will be multicoloured but usually reflect the colour of the stage lighting. The rate of fall of the glitter is moderate and usually just right.

Costume for Performers:

The costumes can be a variety of things, depending on amount of characters, gender of characters and time period. If there’s a woman/women involved or singing (there is a female version of the song) then I suggest long, classic dresses to be worn, and for the man/men singing a suit or ‘posh’ wear.

So, that’s the musical number for this week! I hope you enjoyed it and you learnt the spells to help on stage! Expect another one next week!
