Three days later, Jade was sitting in Divination class, listening to a tangential lecture about the art, history, and methods of reading tea leaves. The only interesting thing that she had so far garnered was that "adding cream to one's tea will destroy the magical properties of these tea leaves!" when a girl named Kalista tried adding half and half to hers. As their professor launched into her second hour of speaking, Jade allowed her mind to wander.

After that terrible stairs incident of Monday, Jade and Alana had quickly bonded as friends. They sat together at lunch, studied together after class, and even had a form out to get them assigned as roommates together. Alana had decided to try out for the Quidditch team, the Bald Eagles, and she was trying to persuade Jade to come out of her shell and audition for Magical Melody Chorus.

Alana was athletic, confident, and full of personality. She was the first person in years who had gotten Jade to really step out of her shell and embrace the world. Alana liked to try to make her laugh, often imagining strange scenarios in which Jade did outrageous things, such as starting a food fight and playing a loud game of hide and seek after dark. Alana always tried to push them as real ideas for activities, but Jade would always laugh them off as preposterous.

"Miss Pevensie? Are you still with us?"

Jade returned to the present as her Divination professor peered down at her and her nearly full teacup.

"Oh, sorry Professor...I, um, was..." Startled by the confrontation, Jade lapsed into silence. She buried her face in her hands, and then sipped at her lukewarm cup of tea, swirling it so that her tea leaves sank to the bottom of the cup. They gathered in a lump at the bottom of her cup, and she peered at them curiously.

There was something like an acorn, something like a fancy cup, and an arch, sort of like a rainbow. According to The Master's Guide to Divining, the acorn symbolized good health, the cup meant good times or socialization, and the rainbow showed fulfillment of goals.

Good health was a given, as Jade took her hygiene and nutrition very seriously. Socialization wasn't likely, as she liked to spend as little time celebrating or being in the public eye as possible. Fulfillment of goals, however, was a legitimate possibility. Jade had many goals and wishes, but she was often too shy to follow them through.

Suddenly, the professor gave a yelp and collapsed to her knees. Several of the students rushed to aid her, and when she sat up her eyes were glowing green. She opened her mouth and spoke in a loud, resonating voice.

"The intruder has come. This time, the intruder will not fail. Long live the mistress. Long live her apprentice."

Then, she slid to the floor and closed her eyes.
