Serial Story #3

Small Town, Huge Story

Chapter One; A Little History.

A girl, with a small town dream. She lived in Gold Falls for all of her life, it being called Gold Falls because back in 1872 because of the way the sun hit the falls in the town about mid-day.

In the current year, Katherine Edwards is one of the founding families bloodline. A little history about the small town, there were four people - two men and two women and they soon got married. Not to each other but different people from the city. But they found this empty land and wanted to make a town.

It was quite far away from other places and it was quite a big place. Not close or near the big city. Which was nice to them, so the four founding families Edwards, Richmond, Sullivan, and Henderson began to build the city they all now call Gold Falls. One of them would be mayor.

It was a rite of passage also for all of them. It would go through the history as a mandatory thing, starting off as the Richmond man would be mayor, the next time when a person would be mayor (would be the next of kin once he has passed away or retired) would be Sullivan, then it was Henderson’s turn and then Edwards.

Time is continuing it always does, in the small town of Gold Falls living in 2015, the generations of so many pasts are still at play. The current mayor is Jennifer Henderson; she is in her mid-forties and has a few kids just like all the other founding families. Katherine Edwards, The oldest daughter of the family of Edwards, would be next in kin to be mayor.

She had a bunch of friends mainly with the rest of the founding family’s kids. There was Isabella Richmond, Justin Henderson, and Ken Sullivan - the eldest child of each founding family. But Katherine felt that she was not fit to be mayor one day of this small town. However, it was mandatory and although she did not want it to be so, she was forced to stick to the old traditions.

But there was a secret she kept to herself, only being the mere age of seventeen, - s he was a witch. She didn’t know it before as she just started to get some powers. She didn’t even know where it came from. She spoke with her mother and father about it.

Her father took her aside and looked at her. “Listen, your great-greatest grandfather the founder of this town was a powerful man. He had many powers and we don’t call them witches but we call it Magi, it’s of great importance you keep this to yourself. No one should know about this otherwise we will be made to leave this town. You know they will do this.”

Katherine agreed and never told a soul. Her father said also that her powers could get out of hand so she had to be careful - which was going to take a long time.

And with that she was busy in her room, looking at herself in the mirror and wanted to practice a spell. Her father had the mayor over right now to talk too. She was in her room trying not to pay attention, her father did not believe in the whole canceling of an event on school nights. Her father had always wanted to be mayor but it was not his turn and he was disappointed.

Katherine looked at her room that her mother told her she had to clean. She tried a spell and she felt it overwhelming her and it flew out the window. Gone to do whatever it had done.

Suddenly she heard a scream downstairs and then she worried of what had happened. “What’s going on?”  Katherine cried running down the stairs. Reaching the room, the came upon a dreadful sight.

She looked at the dead mayor in her father’s arms with horror.

“You killed her.” Her father said, staring at her.

“I - I am so sorry, I....” Was all she could murmur.

He looked at her. “Do you know what this means? You now must be mayor! It’s the rules. And you haven’t barely enough of love and hard work to put into the job.” He said with anger.

Katherine couldn’t believe just what happened. She would end up being mayor. And the ceremony would be soon.
