The Potion-Maker'S Daughter Book 2

Chloe is back for her second year at Hogwarts, but this time she's bringing another secret with her. Along with her school books (who knew Standard Books of Spells Grade 2 was so heavy?), her wand, and a particular necklace, her mind is swirling with something big. Her father told her about it- but she can't tell anyone, as it's a secret. Along with all that, Chloe has to deal with third-year Potions, boys, and- ugh- puberty. Will everyone's favorite heroine prevail, or will she lose herself with her secrets? And yes, there are more secrets. Chapter 5

"Chloe?"

Draco Malfoy chased her down the hall, but all he could see of her was her black robe hems as she tore around corners. Finally he came to a dead end. The only place she could have gone was...the out-of-order girl's lavatory?

He followed the faint sound of sobbing through the swinging door and into the bathroom, which was partially flooded. He saw a small, black-clad figure huddled, crying, at the base of the sink, sitting in the few inches of water on the floor.

"Chloe?" He asked softly, reaching a hand out to her.

"Go away," a tiny voice squeaked from under the sink. When Malfoy put his hand gently on her shoulder, he could feel her trembling.

"Chloe, listen to me. Those kids making fun of you, they're just insecure. You seem powerful and important, and you're so small. They don't think it's fair, and they're doing everything they can to make you feel as small as they can. It's nothing you did."

He knelt down next to her, inwardly grimacing at the water staining his trousers.

"The whole school heard them say it."

"Chloe, please. Look at me." He took her chin in his hand and turned her face toward his. Her cheeks were streaked with tears, her eyes were red-rimmed, and her mouth was wobbling at the corners. "You're an incredible girl, and I don't want you to waste another minute thinking about a thing they say. Go to class, and I'll meet you in the Great Hall for lunch." He squeezed her shoulder encouragingly, and then trudged through the water on the floor and back through the swinging door. After a moment, Chloe wiped her eyes and followed him.
