Chapter 5 ~ Diagon Alley.

''Ok, so, you take a pinch of the powder.'' Karil explained as he grabbed a bit of floo powder from the small pile the headmistress had given them. Maurelle followed suit.
''Then, simply walk to stand in the fireplace, throw the powder onto the hearth, and say, very clearly, the place you want to go.'' He waited until she'd got into the fireplace. ''Right, so we're going to Diagon Alley, so just say it and throw the powder down.''
She nodded hurriedly and, flinging the powder at the hearth, she cried; ''Di-a-gon Al-ley!''
The green flames engulfed her and she disappeared. Karil took his place in the blackened fireplace and did the same.
The bustling, busy pub swam before his eyes and he climbed doggedly from the hearth and glanced around him. Where was Maurelle? He caught a flash of black by the window and rushed to the door.  She was so fast he only just managed to spy her slipping round a corner in the direction of Gringotts.

The whole afternoon was a rush to be honest. In all the time it took them to shop, they barely conversed a word, by the end Karil knew nothing more about her through speech. He could observe though. Most quiet people are watchers, listeners, good judges of character, and Karil was no exception. He had known she'd been telling the truth, much as he could hardly believe her given information, and from his watching and listening that afternoon he grew to know that she was less hard than she was, but seemed to have developed a defensive shell of determination to block any emotional attacks. She wasn't innocent, but there was a ignorant air about her. It could be expected, seeing as the 8th Century differed somewhat from the 21st.
Still, she seemed pretty informed, like she new a lot already. She knew how to use a wand, and did not ignore Karil's advice on steering clear of her kind of magic, much to his surprise. She didn't seem pay much attention to him, someone observing the two would think, but Karil recognised traits of his own there, he could see her eyes flickering, her mind at work all the time.
They were laden with shopping when the arrived back, it was sent to Hogwarts as there was so much, though her new black cat, named Aleron, went back with her via the floo network. Once they got back she disappeared, exploring the castle in detail.
Karil was sat alone in the library once more and sighed. He couldn't get her out of his head, he needed to know more, he needed to learn about her. Rubbing his head, he closed his eyes and tried to empty his mind of the racing thoughts. Just when he'd hoped he'd have a nice, ordinary summer.
