Chapter 4 ~ Enrolled.

''Where the hell has she gone?'' Rolf looked wildly about the hut before picking up his coat. ''I'll go into the forest, you go to the castle.'' He told Karil. ''If she tells anyone where I found her there'll be questions.''

Karil nodded and once out of the hut, the two brothers went their different ways. If it was discovered the Rolf had been on muggle land and poaching there, he would be dismissed, ending the lonely but peaceful summers the boys had whilst their mother was in Asia. True, Luna Scamander saw them at Christmases and some of the summer holidays, but for now she was on an extremely dangerous mission in the country to find A Crumple-horned Snorkack, though there had been many previous endeavours before the current quest. She was not a natural mother, you could say, but when they spent time with her, it was worthwhile. No, Karil most definitely did not want to give up his enjoyable, quiet summer holidays in the homely castle.

He searched the ground floor, looked in the great hall, went through every level until, on the sixth floor, he heard the echo of that haunting Irish accent, followed by one of Scottish. Following the sound, he met The Headmistress, accompanied by the rebellious Maurelle.

''Ah, Scamander, I've just been having a talk with Maurelle here.'' Minerva Mcgonagall greeted him pleasantly. He gave a strained smile to keep up appearances, but Maurelle scowled. Not seeing this reaction, the headmistress went on. ''She's going to be joining us for the next year here, and possibly the one after that.'' Karl stared at the girl. ''She's sixteen, so will be in the same year as you. Maybe you can show her around a bit. She'll be staying here for the next month until school starts.'' Mcgongall smiled at both of them. ''Maybe you can go with her to Diagon Alley?'' He nodded absent-mindedly, but the headmistress hadn't explained the timing...

''Well then, off you go!'' The headmistress pushed Maurelle forward. ''Be back before five!''

Karl stood there, stunned, as the Headmistress walked off and left him with Maurelle. It had all happened so fast he was a little dizzy. He leaned against a wall, ignoring her presence, whilst he counted down in his head. One. She was apparently Morgan Le Fay's daughter. Two. She was going to be spending the next year with him. Three. She was now walking to the stairs.

He hurried to catch up with her. ''Woah, can you just hang on a minute? We need to talk.''

She stared at him, bemused. ''What about?'' Her tone was incredulous. He sighed and walked to a seat.

''Look, I need to know you're full story and I need to know if you told Mcgongall anything about how or where my brother found you.''

She raised her eyebrows. ''Why would I tell the headmistress about turning up in a woodland from eighth-century Britain?''

He let out his breath with relief, then all the questions filled his head once more. ''Can you come and sit down?'' She looked annoyed, but came over to the seat and crossed her legs elegantly. ''Now, what did you tell Mcgongall?''

''That I was sent here by my parents, who are away on an urgent voyage and I needed somewhere to stay. She agreed to enrol me after a talk and that I could stay here for the next month.'' She answered neatly. Karil looked at her.

''But - if you've told me and brother is true, then you haven't got anything, no money, no belongings, nothing.''

''It doesn't take much to conjure up a few items of clothing and a trunk. I already have a key to my vault, left there from long ago, and I will be going to Diagon Alley anyway.'' She answered in a slightly proud tone.

Karil had caught on that the magic she used differed to the kind used in present day, but he needed to understand it. ''So, how do you cast spells?'' His hunger for learning set in.

''I cast spells with my mind, through my eyes. They glow orange when I do magic.'' She demonstrated the process, her eyes burning the fiery amber and making a sculpture shift to one side. Karl watched her face intently. Apart from the eye colour change, her facial expressions did not change. For the first time she showed more than rebellious determination, blushing as Karil stared at her face. She shifted after ten seconds of his examination. It was his turn to blush. Sometimes his instinct to inspect got ahead of him. He rose awkwardly. ''Ok, where are you staying?''

''The headmistress said I should stay in one of the girl's dormitories in the Ravenclaw Tower.'' She answered pertly. He sighed. It had to be near him, didn't it. He made for the stairs, but turned to speak to her as she followed him.

''And you still claim to be the daughter of Morgan Le Fay?''

She scowled. ''I do not claim to be my Mother's daughter. I am the true daughter of Morgana Le Fay.'' She stalked past him and down the stairs.
