Chapter 20 ~ The Feeling.

''She knows you read it! Are you mad or something Karil!'' Ly stood there, confused and shocked at his best friend. It irritated Karil slightly, but he dismissed the comment.

''Yes, I know, it was the only way I could find out more about her. Anyway-''

''Why do we need to know more about her? I understand the book and everything, that was intriguing and helpful, but we don't need to know about her!'' Ly interrupted Karil, obviously not over the matter of Karil speaking to Maurelle about heart-to-heart topics.

''We needed to know more about what we are facing, Ly. Anyway, what I was going to say is that they'll be meeting again soon so we need to watch her closely.'' Karil didn't admit he actually wanted to understand Maurelle , simply driving on with the previous comment.

Ly sighed, wanting to pursue the subject of Karil's conversation, but instead let it go. Still, Karil should have been more careful. ''Well, yeah, I suppose so.'' Making his tone more determined, he began on the task of witnessing the next meeting between Mirror and Maurelle. ''Why don't we take turns to stay up late in the common room, hide somewhere, and if she does go out one night we can alert the one of us who's sleeping and then sneak off after her.''

Karil nodded, glad the embarassing topic of his conversation with Maurelle was over. ''Yeah, that sounds good.'' He checked his watch as the deep chimes of the clock began to echo throughout the castle. ''Looks like you're gonna be late for Quidditch practice though.''

Karil laughed as Ly's face filled with panic. It was an extremely funny when Ly was in a hurry when late. Grinning after his friend as Ly ran off down the corridor with a last yell of ''See you later!'', Karil turned to make his way back to the common room.

He let his sub-conscious instincts take him there, using the main part of his mind to think about his talk with Maurelle. Ever since she'd saved him he'd had a funny sort of feeling that was growing alarmingly. He knew what his friend would say, the infuriating rhyme was echoing throughout his head right now; ''Karil and Maurelle sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G.'' Most of the time Ly steered away from petty muggle slang, but knowing it annoyed Karil made repeating them one of Ly's hobbies.

Karil himself didn't know what to do. This girl, however innocent she may be, was going to become his enemy sooner or later. He was plotting to stop all she was planning, which would obviously not go down well. Plus, who said she was good? Maurelle may have had a softer side but most that Karil had seen from the girl was essence of darkness; cold, hard, cunning.

He sighed, taking a moment to jump over a vanishing stair as he climbed one of the staircases before returning back to his thoughts. To be honest, he was no good with girls. Ly wasn't brilliant either, but atleast he could strike up a conversation. Plus he was good looking. But Karil, well, no girl had ever been interested in him. The slash that ran down from just above his cheekbone to the side of his chin was often deterring, plus he was quiet and withdrawn most of the time, especially around girls. No, he'd never been in a relationship. Quite sad considering his age, a fact that made him feel ashamed and even less happy about his appearance.

He doubted Maurelle would like him back - she was basically an emotionally damaged killing machine all set for the murder of Merlin and a war against the ministry. She could feel alright, pain, remorse, anger. But did she ever experience compassion, love? If she didn't, then why had she saved him?

Why had she saved him? Karil remembered her panicking tone as she held him ,and the cold, salty tears she had cried. Had her tears been about him or the whole experience? He didn't know. But the incident gave him a flicker of hope. Maybe she did care about him, just a little bit...

No! He raked his hand through his hair. No, it was not possible, he could not go and fall in love with the hard, cold daughter of the twisted, evil villain Morgan Le Fay. Maurelle had to remain at arms length in all this, so he could find it easier to halt her plans. Shaking his head, he banished all thoughts of Maurelle from his mind.

But there was still that whisper. That teasing little murmur in the back of his mind. He sighed. He'd never felt like this before, it was strange and surprising. The whole experience being new to him made it even harder to stop the growing feeling.
Why
oh Why he have to start liking Maurelle Le Fay?
