Chapter 19 ~ The Knights Begin to Rise.

Merlin held the mirror up to inspect his face again. The skin was smoothing out, the hair was darkening. He was growing younger by the day.

And that was not the only thing that was changing. Merlin put down the mirror and glanced at Arthur. The growths of pale pink had increased, looking like growths of fungi on the shining metal. The old magician made his way up to the statue and touched the patches. Skin.
Red was showing through his robes also, and the chain was soft and hanging. Blood was beginning to flow through the king's veins once more. Arthur was smiling still, awaiting the time when he soon would become alive once more, to defeat the evil power that was growing by the minute. That was why Merlin was growing younger, and in the gradual youth, stronger.
The other knights also, were stirring, smaller parts beginning to pinken as the the skin returned. Gwain was halfway sitting up, Percival had turned his head.
But Merlin needed to know what he was facing. He had been reading the skies, the crystals, his dreams, but none seemed to make sense. Maybe it was time to cast divination aside and think practically. It wasn't just a threat to Albion, it was a threat to magic, and a threat to him, that was why he had been affected also, not just Arthur. But he could not think of anyone who would wish to kill him, nobody in the modern world knew he existed. Unless-
He drew in breath sharply. Unless the threat to him was a figure from long ago, travelled through time. The deep, buried memories of his and Guinevere's hunts for Maurelle Pendragon, and the remains of a new, time affecting spell he had found. The whole druid camp had been used to complete the magic, all they had found were bones, skulls. Powerful, dark magic had been used to transport something - someone, forward through time.
And he realized who was coming for him, for Albion.
Maurelle Le Fay.
