Mondelwyn'S Encyclopedia Of Enchantments
Mondelwyn's Encyclopedia of Enchantments was written by Mercurian Mondelwyn, a widely travelled wizard of the seventeenth century. His ambition was to publish a tome containing all spells and enchantments that were practiced wizards of various parts of the world, hence this precious volume. Lost to obscurity, his Encyclopedia has recently resurfaced due to renewed academic interest in the early 1900s, and has proved remarkably insightful on the diversity of charms and curses of the magical world. This book is for both the novice and the master, for the curious and the learned. It describes common charms as wells as complex curses, offering information and inspiration alike. (Author's note: this is an exercise in indulgent spell-making, and thus will contain many non-canonic incantations and spells, and take several liberties with the spells taught in HiH. 1X.1 Engorgement Charm
Incantation: Engorgio
Difficulty: I
Counterspell: Shrinking Charm (1X.2)
Effect: Enlarges the target object
Concentration required: Throughout the enlargement process. Engorgement halts upon the disturbed concentration.
Variant 1X.1.1 Swollen Head Hex
Incantation: Engorgio Skullus
Difficulty: II
Counterspell: Shrinking Charm (1X.2) or the specific variant (1X.2.1)
Effect: Enlarges the victim's head much akin to a balloon swelling.
Concentration required: Only upon casting. Engorgement possible only to a certain size.
1X.2 Shrinking Charm
Incantation: Reducio
Difficulty: I
Counterspell: Engorgement Charm (1X.1)
Effect: Shrinks the target object
Concentration required: Throughout the shrinking process. Shrinking stops upon disturbed concentration.
Alternative uses: Potions: Reducio is cast at the end of brewing a Shrinking Solution.
Variant 1X.2.1 Shrunken Head Hex
Incantation: Redactum Skullus
Difficulty: II
Counterspell: Engorgement Charm (1X.1) or the specific variant (1X.1.1)
Effect: Shrinks the victim's head to the size of a doll's head.
Concentration required: Only upon casting. Shrinking possible only to a certain size.
Alternative uses: Dark: Redactum Skullus is sometimes used on severed heads in the process of making Shrunken Skulls for certain curses.
1X.3 Miniaturist's Enchantment
Incantation: Diminuendo
Difficulty: II
Counterspell: General Counterspells (0.1)
Effect: Temporarily reduces the size of a living target proportionately. The effects, while temporary, can last quite long unless countered using Finite.
Concentration required: Only upon casting. Shrinking is possible only to a certain doll-like size.
1X.4 Undetectable Extension Charm
Incantation: Cavernosus Interior
Difficulty: IV
Counterspell: General Counterspells (0.1) with specific knowledge of the Undetectable Extension Charm
Effect: Enlarges the interior space of an object or an area, while keeping the dimensions of the exterior intact.
Concentration required: Only upon casting. Caster should keep concentrating on three things simultaneously: the dimensions of the exterior, the intended dimensions of the expanded interior, and the magical binding connection between the two.
Specific examples: Enlargement of the interior of trunks, purses, tents and rooms.
1X.5 Inflating Jinx
Incantation: Inflatus
Difficulty: I
Counterspell:
1X.5 Featherweight Charm
Incantation: Levisempra
Difficulty: I
Counterspell: General Counterspells (0.1), Anchor Jinx (1X.6)
Effect: Drastically lightens the weight of any heavy object targeted.
Side-Effect: Objects that become too light might get carried away with the wind. It is suggested for the object to be first bound to another object (e.g. by means of a Sticking Charm)
Concentration required: Only upon casting.
1X.6 Anchor Jinx
Incantation: Graviforte
Difficulty: I
Counterspell: General Counterspells (0.1), Featherweight Charm (1X.5)
Effect: Drastically increases the weight of any light object targeted that it is difficult to lift off any surface.
Side-Effect: Objects that become too heavy might crash through the surface supporting it (e.g. a fragile table)
Concentration required: Only upon casting.
