Chapter 7

My little boy has a wonderful voice,
'Though it can't yet be said that he speaks,
But he laughs and he cries and he coos and he howls
And he barks and he grunts and he squeaks.

And his squeak is his best and his funniest noise,
For he practises all the day through,
And the more he rehearses, the higher it gets,
And the louder and funnier too.

One day, as I watched him, he opened his mouth;
'Though I listened, I heard not a sound,
But from ev'ry direction came yipping and barking
As hundreds of dogs came around.

And he barked at the dogs and the dogs barked at him
And they all had a wonderful time
'Till he grunted so loud that he scared them away!
And that is the end of the rhyme.
