I got undressed and went to bed.
The house was still and dark.
But, just as I had gone to sleep,
My dog began to bark.

I got up to investigate.
No danger could be found.
I figured that he must have heard
Some sort of doggy sound.

Twice more that night he woke me up.
I got too little sleep.
But when my loud alarm went off,
He uttered not a peep.

As I got up and dressed for work,
He slept just like a log.
All day I dragged myself around
And cursed my stupid dog.

When I got home, he came and put
His forepaws on my knee.
Instinctively, I stroked his head.
He wagged his tail with glee.

My anger vanished instantly,
The feeling was so nice.
To have a dog who loves you is
Worth almost any price.
