Equipment For Searching Dragons

Chapter 2

Of course, one can never begin a search for dragons without proper equipment. However, unfortunately, not many dragon finding tools have been invented yet, and those that are are quite difficult to find. Therefore, it is faster and more convenient to create your own tools instead of looking for and purchasing them.

The Attraction Mirror

Most dragons are naturally attracted to jewelry and treasure - especially when they're at one neat pile, which is why most of them prefer to pile up their hoards of treasure rather than scattering them around. In order to create this tool, you must first acquire a type of jewel - the harder, the better - and small mirrors. Technically, size does not really matter, but if the mirrors get too big, the tool may become unwieldy. You would need about twenty of the mirrors making up a ball with a single opening, the mirrors facing towards the jewel. Magnifying glasses are recommended to install at the opening of the mirror ball so that it can be more easily seen. Now, the tool is finished, but modifications may be added according to which type of dragon you are looking for. For example, some dragons, like Common Welsh Green, are often attracted to shining light - you may take advantage of this and try to attach a wand that is casting Lumos or, more simply, a common Muggle flashlight.

Fireproof Clothing

Of the many types of clothing worn to protect from dragon attacks, many prefer fireproof clothing - for obvious reasons, such as the fiery breaths that some, such as the Hungarian Horntails, can summon. The type of material that works best for fireproof clothing is dragon hide, but as most wizards and witches know, dragons are very scarce today and are endangered. Even if one was lucky enough to stumble upon one, its cost would be unimaginable. Therefore, many go for the second best path - aluminum. Of course, there is definitely a limit to how much aluminum can protect you from a certain amount of heat and fire. Some had tried using other materials like iron or steel, yet had found them unwieldy or hard to move in, as well as took way too much energy, so aluminum would be a preferable decision as a just-in-case protection and worn like a simple shirt.

Many other tools exist for dragon searching, but it may be the best for yourself to create your own based on your experiences.

Some other equipment you may need for searching dragons are listed below:

-quick or simple food, perhaps a Muggle army food called the MRE.

-books/parchment and pens/quills for taking notes about and sketching dragons.

-any type of scope, for looking for dragons far away. Not a telescope, obviously.

-machete, especially when you'll be going to forested areas or plains.

-wand, if you have one, only for self defense: never use it to purposefully harm dragons unless your life is threatened!

-backpack, knapsack, satchel, et cetera.

-at least one guide to dragons, unless you are a professional expert (some good choices are listed on the Appendix).

These are the most essential equipment you would need for looking for dragons, but it is likely, and suggested, that you try to add more tools and items in your arsenal in case you face perils or danger depending on which type of dragons and which type of region you will be venturing to find dragons.
