The Potters (Part 2)

Chapter 63

A/n: I know I said I wouldn't be updating this week, but I decided I could spend some free time to write a small chapter :)

TW AND CW: mentions of violence, mentions of death, mild cursing

Ana was not going to go to Remus', or Lily's, or Ivy and Sage's, or Marlene's, Alice's, Frank's, anyone but James' house, really.

She had decided it was best to go to James' house because:

1) She was supposed to go there anyways- it's not like she'd be uninvited.

2) Ana could trust Mr. Potter to keep the secret about Arnie. Mr. Potter worked at the Ministry, and Ana wanted to see his will without letting the Ministry know that Arnie was dead.

Ana's stomach rumbled and her mouth felt parched.

Only a little more, she told herself. Just a few kilometers farther.

Her map of the UK had been hastily traced with a red line from Newquay to Margate, and now, Ana had just entered the charming town of Budleigh Babberton, a mainly wizarding village, about 3-4 kilometers from James' house.

Ana flew on, and finally caught sight of the large white mansion, surrounded by marble pillars and enormous gardens.

In Ana's astute opinion, it looked like a house worthy of the queen.

She inched her broom downwards, little by little, through the thickets of clouds.

Ana finally landed in an alleyway a block away from James' house.

Hiding her broom behind her back nervously, Ana inched towards the mansion quickly and quietly, trying to be as discreet possible.

When she finally reached the elegant white gates, she swung them open and ran the rest of the way to the wooden door.

Ana raised the metal knocker and let it fall against the oak panels.

"WHO THE HELL IS AT THE DOOR AT THIS TIME OF NIGHT?!" shrieked a familiar voice- Sirius.

"I TOLD YOU TO STOP CURSING, SIRIUS!" yelled another familiar voice, one Ana recognized as Mrs. Potter's.

"I'M TRYING TO GET MY BEAUTY REST!" shrieked Mr. Potter.

A shuffling sounded behind the door- someone was coming.

The lock clicked, and it opened.

A pajama-clad James, hair ruffled more than ever, stood dreary-eyed and only half-awake at the door.

His sleepiness cleared immediately when he saw who it was. "Ana? What are you doing here?"

Ana opened her mouth, but found no words could come out. "It's- an emergency," she finally managed.

Mrs. Potter poked her head out from James' side. "Honey, I know it's you, but just to check, for security measures, you know, can you tell me what I made for dessert on the last day you were here? Last summer, I mean."

Ana swayed on her feet. The thought of dessert made her stomach squirm. She was so hungry.

"T-t-treacle tart," Ana whispered. "It's James' favorite, and James, your favorite animal is a stag. Lily's patronus is a doe. Do you believe it's me?"

James nodded, still confused, as he let Ana inside and closed the door behind her.

Ana wiped her muddy feet on the mat. "Heard Sirius' dulcet tones," she said, managing a weak smile.

Mrs. Potter laughed quietly. "Now, sweetheart, what was your emergency?"

Ana gulped. "I ought to take this to the living room."

Sirius, James, Ana, and Mr. and Mrs. Potter gathered around Ana's trunk.

"It's time you all knew the truth about who my godfather actually was," Ana said, and explained everything Arnie had told her. No one realized that she had used the word 'was'.

"So he's your dad," Sirius said, a little grumpy at being woken up so early. "No reason to get us up at 4 in the morning."

Mrs. Potter shot him a withering look that reminded her painfully of her Mum's look when she found out that Ana had gotten too enthusiastic playing Quidditch and accidentally broken the garden shed.

Ana gulped and unlatched the trunk, letting the lid fall open.

Mr. and Mrs. Potter gasped, and James and Sirius scurried back.

"Is that..." Sirius whispered, not finishing the question.

Ana nodded. "A Death Eater came inside, claiming that he was one of Dad's colleagues at the Ministry. It was Greyback. He used a curse that even Dittany couldn't work on."

Sirius and James growled. They had a very specific dislike of Greyback, along with Peter and Ana.

"Are you hurt?" Mr. Potter asked seriously.

Ana shook her head, but she knew that, while not physically harmed, she would be emotionally scarred for the rest of her life. "I threw everything I learnt from Defense Against the Dark Arts at him. When he was Stunned, I Obliviated him and threw him out of the window. I feel no mercy."

Ana did not smile, or say anything else. She simply repeated these words in a blank monotone.

Mrs. Potter placed a hand on her shoulder. "It's ok, honey. We'll make sure he gets a proper burial, complete with all the honors."

Ana shook her head. "I think he would have just liked to be remembered. I'll bury him myself, I don't need any help. But thank you for the offer, Mrs. Potter."

Ana stood up, and locked the trunk again, heading out to the garden, where a shovel was propped up against a large birch tree, next to a small stream. The stream had small pebbles placed on it's side, along with a tiny wooden bridge.

Alwena was Welsh for river, so Ana knew this was exactly where Arnie would want to be laid to rest.

Ana ignored her screaming stomach and began to dig in front of the tree, with the stream at the side. Dirt began to grow on a mound next to the hole.

Finally, an hour later, when it was deep enough, Ana gently placed Arnie's body inside of the hole, but not without holding his hand one last time.

She quickly filled in the hole and looked around for a large rock. Ana found one, and inserted it in front of Arnie's grave.

She pulled out her wand, and began to carve out a set of words onto the stone.

Arnie Loughty

The last enemy who shall be destroyed is death.

Ana did not know where she got the idea to write this, but she knew what it meant- living beyond death. The idea that the dead never truly leave you.

A/n: Yes, guys, that IS the quote carved onto Lily and James' gravestone. I guess they got the idea from Ana?

Satisfied with her work, but not at all satisfied with her life, Ana stood up, brushed the dirt off of herself, and walked back inside, not only leaving Arnie under the calm moonlight, but leaving herself back there, too.

Ana Miracle would never quite be the same again.

Well, that was sad.

Thanks for reading, anyways, and as usual, I hope you enjoyed this chapter :)
