The Battle

Chapter 11

Our army charged on.

We wouldn't be stopped by mere soldiers! We will defeat their generals - their commanders - their overlords - their Kings!

I dashed through the burning field over the crumbling ground. I saw a destroyed tower - and the Tophykian general... Dontophyke... watched over his dying soldiers killing our soldiers.

Ruthless... Merciless... Heartless...

I sped to his tower, dodging bullets and blades.

A Tophykian colonel stood in my path. He wielded two Berserk Blades and an Assasult Cannon.

I shot my Pytre gun over, and over, and over.

I shot fifteen times, and seven bullets hit him. The others missed while dodging attacks. Seven, still, was good enough. Nothing can survive seven Pytre bullets.

Unless you were immortal.

The colonel's wounds had healed.

What?

No, that's not possible...

He grinned, and swung his blades at me. I could barely duck away from them.

He charged his blades with blade batteries. Now they would send out an electric wave when they were swung.

He slashed all over the air, and the electrical waves hit me, knocking me down...

He pointed his blade at me.

I had lost.

Suddenly, a destructive force had knocked over the colonel.

It was Muukysto, the blind man.

He came over and helped me up. I grabbed my pack of grenades, and uncapped every single one of them.

I threw the belt towards the colonel, and ran with Muukysto.

As the bombs exploded, the colonel's body had split into a million pieces.

Even if you're immortal, you can't survive when there is no body for you.

I grabbed my Pytre gun and started going to Dontophyke's tower. I left Muukysto behind in a safe destroyed market. Nobody was there, and the stands would serve as a barricade for him. I went up the tower.

When I arrived at the top, I found Dontophyke and two of his advisers. His advisers unveiled their Krayblades.

The thin, light blades swung everywhere, impossible to evade. I was slashed several times by their blades.

My entire body was bleeding from the cuts. The pain was terrible.

I slowly lifted my Aura Blade. Blood streamed through the blade and made a red puddle on the ground.

In an instant, I threw my flash. The unexpected action startled the advisers for a moment, but the moment was enough for me to pierce through both of their bodies with my blade.

As their dead, lifeless bodies fell on the ground, I faced Dontophyke. He was wielding...

Nothing.

He had no weapons, nothing for self protection. He was vulnerable against me. I could just pierce through him, and he would be over.

I stayed there, doing nothing.

This was too easy.

Finally, I decided and raised my sword to his torso.

I was about to stab through him, when...

I knocked backwards.

Something had knocked me backwards.

There was nothing around me... Just Dontophyke and me.

No... That can't be... Is it that Dontophyke is...

Psychic?

His extrasensory telekinesis had hacked into my nervous system.

My head was as if it were shattering.

My legs were limp and cramped.

My arms seemed to be pierced by a thousand arrows.

My body was as if twelve swords stabbed through every part.

I groaned, and I was unable to do anything. Dontophyke just sat there, making a wretched smile as he watched me feel infinite hell.

I fell face first... I couldn't lift my head... He was pushing me down with telekinesis... He had... reached the highest level of the Tophykian race...

I managed to get my hand near my sword. I tried to grab it, but the pain wouldn't let me. Dontophyke noticed it and kicked the sword away.

I was dying.

Then I saw a small floating spark of light.

I'm not sure Dontophyke noticed it, but it was definitely there.

Then I remembered what the Patronian had said before leaving us in the inn.

"Follow the Light."

I crawled over to get near the hovering spark, then with all my might...

Lifted my hand and snatched the light from the air.

Suddenly, all of the pain had gone. The gravity pushing me down had disappeared.

Then I saw Dontophyke.

He was lying on his throne.

He was dead.

That must be the weakness of Tophykians - the light. A spark of light hovers around them, but the Tophykian eye cannot see it. When someone grabs the light, the Tophykian... dies. It is their Achilles' heel.

I raced down the tower. The general had died, so the soldiers must be notified, because it is Tophykian tradition to retreat when their leader dies.

I would have to make a big racket. I had my flash in my pocket. If I attracted attention of a soldier and flashed towards the dead body of Dontophyke, he would tell others and they would retreat, and we would taste our first victory from the entire war.

I grabbed a Pytre gun from a dead comrade for self defense, since my other gun ran out of energy and my other sword was kicked away and broken.

I spotted a Vaktovian berserker about to slam Muukysto, the blind man, with his Freyas Saber. I aimed my Pytre gun at the Vaktovian and pulled the trigger.

The laser bullet shot through the Vaktovian.

It also went through Muukysto.
